Some people don’t like backlinks

Some people just don’t like free backlinks, even if the number of backlinks are over 2000 :) Here is an email I got recently:

Yes, as requested I removed his backlinks from the blog. I guess he is like a Rupert Murdoch.

Majestic SEO tool, free for your personal blog

majesticseo.pngMajesticSEO offers great set of SEO tools. I think they are the only one that do not require you to install a script to track the statistics of your blog. So how they get the data about your blog? They simply gather it from the internet (referring domains, backlinks, anchor texts etc).

While the service is paid, they allow you to get complete stats for your own blog (i.e for one URL). That’s enough for most bloggers. Check it out!

That’s one way to increase RSS subscribers

I was downloading some great web2.0 icons from WebDesignerDepot.com but was not able to proceed with my download until I had to join their RSS. I thought it was creative, even though I found it a bit forceful.

Here is how they have done. Download links were password protected, and they have placed the “password” in their RSS posts.

wddepot.png

The password could only be seen at the end of every post on RSS feed (see below).

wddepot2.png

Actually, I didn’t mind signing up for their RSS because the blog is excellent. Therefore, I believe this tactic will work well on blogs that have good content and not so much on the blogs that have poor content. Because subscribing to good blogs is not a big deal for many users.

So, that’s one way to increase the RSS subscriber count.

WikiRank - See how many pageviews each Wikipedia page gets

wikirank.pngIf you used to wonder how many pageviews particular page on Wikipedia gets, and whether it is worth to get your link up on that page…. now you don’t have to.

Because WikiRank allows you to see the statistics of every page on Wikipedia.

Of course, it only shows the pageviews and not the number of clicks each link gets. But still, it’s a great service for SEO people. For example, if you really do all it takes to get traffic to your blog, with WikiRank you could have checked the latest trends and perhaps make a niche website or blog about particular ‘upcoming’ topic that will get a lot of pageviews on Wikipedia and then try to get your link up on that particular page.

For example, people searched over 3 million times for “Watchmen” in Wikipedia.

If you had watched the movie and had written a review about it, and then got your link on Watchmen page on Wikipedia. I am sure you could have gotten at least hundreds of clicks if not thousands from Wikipedia. Just a thought.

Facebooks comments replacing WordPress comments soon?

With Facebook’s new commenting widget you can put comments box on any page and allow people to comment using their facebook login. Great thing is that, the comments will appear on their own profiles just like any other notification message in the Facebook.

Do you know what that means to you as a blogger? It means a great opportunity to promote your blog on the facebook for free. Imagine 20 people commented on your blog and these 20 comments appeared on their own facebook profile and seen by their network of friends. E.g “Adam commented on AdesBlog saying….” Obviously there will be people who click on the link and come to your blog.

Mmhh… I think I have to sit and figure out how to replace my wordpress comments with this facebook comments widget. If you find a way how to do it, do let me know. Because it needs to correspond to every post on your blog accordingly. I am not sure if that is possible. It would be better if facebook team could come up with wp plugin for replacing wp comments.

The widget does support comments from people who do not have facebook accounts. So that’s great too. It means you won’t lose anything.

Here is a video by facebook engineers on how to setup this comments widget on your site, (might be little techie for beginners):

For more info you can go to here, developer wiki or forums.

Adjix Later - Timestamp feature for Twitter

Remember Adjix that I blogged about here? For those who don’t know adjix, in short, it’s a URL shortening, money making, twitter-on-firefox plugin. Now it has a new feature called “Send Later” (see screenshot below)

adjixlater.png

Basically it’s a timestamp feature similar to WordPress’ one that allows you to publish tweets at a specified time. How is that useful? Some people use twitter as a promotional tool to drive traffic to their blogs. But since twitter works in real-time and since real-time tweeting might not be good idea for someone who is located in Australia but want to target people who are from North America, than this feature will make a lot of sense for them. Because, because of the time difference you might be missing a lot of people who could otherwise see your tweet and visit your blog. Make sense? Well, then check out www.adjix.com

P.S It now supports multiple twitter accounts too.

3 Important SEO Tools: Google, Yahoo and MSN Webmaster Tools

While “SEO Professionals” are asking hundreds of dollars for their services to get your website listed by the major search engines and improve your search engine results’ rankings, it’s important to note that one of the most important tools provided by the same search engines themselves (to get listed on them) are free.

These tools are the essentials of SEO, just like your Page and HTML optimization. However if you are using WordPress for your blog or site, page/HTML optimization is already taken care of by WordPress. Yes WP has a pretty good SEO friendly platform. Moreover, WP has a great plugin called All in One SEO Pack, installing it should be more than enough to make your blog Search Engine friendly (i.e optimized). These tools are:

Google Webmaster Tools

google_wtools.png

URL: www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

.

MSN Webmaster Tools

msn_wtools.png

URL: webmaster.live.com/webmaster

.

Yahoo Site Explorer

yahoo_wtools.png
URL: siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com

If you had not already signed-up with each of them, do sign up and get your blog listed. Particularly pay attention to the warnings and errors that these tools provide about your site/blog, sometimes simply fixing those warnings and errors can improve your site’s ranking in search engine results tremendously.

If you opt for SEO Specialist’s services, please make sure that you make some profile and background check of the individual or the company that provides the service. Most of the “too good to be true” promises provided from these professionals are deemed illegal (black hat) by the search engines and can get your site banned. So, just make sure that the techniques that they use are in conformity with the Terms and Conditions of the Search Engines.

Get “Stomping the Search Engines 2″ for free

stomping the search enginesNow you can get the popular “Stomping the Search Engines 2” and the Premiere issue of “The Net Effect” - both for free!

Stomping the Search Engines is a premium DVD SEO Course that comes with 7 modules, each module having 4-7 video lessons.

StomperNet started in October 2006. Our SEO Training has now created over 60 millionaire members. We’ve taught literally thousands of business owners how to make money online.

For nearly two years now, our elite membership has been HAPPILY paying $797 a MONTH to be part of StomperNet. As you can see from the testimonials in the video above, the general consensus is that it’s well worth it…

Wow! Sixty millionaires?! Paying $797 a month fee for SEO course!?

First of all, sixty millionaires is an impressive number! But frankly, I think paying $797/month fee for an SEO course is too much. How much hidden knowledge can be there in SEO that regular bloggers/webmasters who have been online for the last 5 years do not know? I don’t know…

Anyway, good thing is, it’s now free. And since it’s in a DVD box, you have to cover the shipping fees, it’s $9.95 only.

I think $9.95 is a reasonable price for an SEO course that can make me a millionaire! That, I think I can afford to pay ;)

Get it here! While stocks last.
