YouthSays Survey

Recently YouthSays, a community organizing platform for youths across Southeast Asia, did a survey with Jobstreet polling 3,217 youths in Malaysia between ages 15 to 35 on career related questions.

And here is some of the interesting results they have got.

See all results here (or in PDF here).

As you can see from the results above, current employees prefer flexible hours at work, wants gadgets as perks, and overwhelming majority of them believe in company loyalty. I think companies should note of this survey results so that they can understand their employees better.

What would you like from your companies? What is more important for you? Pleas leave your feedback in the comments section.

MIT goes Open Source

mitcoursesfree.pngMassachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is one of the top academic institutions in the world. How about learning what MIT students are learning but for free?

MIT’s open source project called OpenCourseWare was setup to provide MIT’s lectures for free. Currently there are about 1,900 courses available on the portal. Lectures contain all the necessary files and some of the lectures include audio and video content. It will be like distance learning, you just sit at home and watch the lectures of MIT on your PC. If you are a good self-learner, you can benefit a lot from this portal.

I am particularly interested in the Sloan School of Managment section which covers topics like Management, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Strategy etc.

There are many other universities that have similar programs like MIT’s OCW; Yale, Berkeley, Tufts, Stanford etc. But I see that MIT has the most complete archive of their lectures online.

So, enjoy the free education!

PDF: The Razorfish Consumer Experience Report

feed08.pngThe Consumer Experience Report is a report by Razorfish which documented the results of a 2008 survey that Razorfish conducted of more than 1,000 “connected” consumers (a coveted group who spend money online and have access to broadband). The study looks at:

  • how people “live” online today;
  • how Web 2.0 has changed consumer behavior;
  • what is the real impact of the “social web”;
  • what really drives online purchase habits (especially in a down economy);
  • and who is really using the mobile web and what are they doing.

You can view the report online at http://feed.razorfish.com or download the PDF version here. If you are doing online marketing or interested in social networking and where it’s heading, then you shouldn’t miss this report.

Study: Blog Influence on Consumer Purchases

BuzzLogic, a social media analysis company and ad network, revealed the results of its Harnessing the Power of Blogs survey, a BuzzLogic-sponsored research study of more than 2,000 online consumers in the US conducted by JupiterResearch, a Forrester research company. The study aimed to uncover changing behavior around blog discovery and consumption, how blogs factor into consumer purchase decisions and the nature of blog influence on buying behavior.

Here are some of the findings:

  • Blogs influence purchases: 50 percent of blog readers say they find blogs useful for purchase information.
  • Blogs sway more purchases among readers than social networks: More frequent blog readers say they trust relevant blog content for purchase decisions than content from social networking sites.
  • Niche focus ups influence factor: For those who have found blog content useful for product decisions, more than half (56 percent) said blogs with a niche focus and topical expertise were key sources.
  • Blogs go beyond tech: Outside of technology-related purchases, for which 31 percent of readers say blogs are useful, other key categories include media and entertainment (15 percent); games/toys and/or sporting goods (14 percent); travel (12 percent); automotive (11 percent); and health (10 percent).
  • 40 percent of blog readers have taken action as a result of viewing an ad on a blog; 50 percent of frequent blog readers say this is the case.

As you can see, blogs are very powerful when it comes to influencing people – especially for online purchases. As the study found (see highlighted text up) blogs are also more influential than social networking sites. That basically means more income from advertisements for bloggers in the future :)
