Blog “loading time” poll results

New to this blog? See our Popular Posts section to get started, we have tons of great articles that can benefit you. Don't miss the upcoming interesting articles, subscribe to our RSS.

Out of about 900 readers, only 11 people answered the survey and another 10 made comments. It seems that overall the blog “loading time” is not that bad, and can be considered normal. It seems that the blog is loading slower in Asia, compared to Europe and US. Below is the survey results:

Out of 11, 6 person said they were located in Asia - 3 of them answered “Normal”, 2 of them said it was loading “Slow”, and one responded “Very Slow”.

Out of 11, 4 person said they were located in North America - 2 of them said that the blog was loading “Normal”, one said “Very Fast” and another said “Very Slow”.

There was one respondent from Europe and he/she said that the blog was loading “Fast”.

However, I have decided to shift to a new host still. (more about this host later) Because, even though the blog is loading normal for most of the people, it’s loading very slow to myself. If I don’t shift to new hosting, it will just give me more inconvenience. Because sometimes it’s not even saving the posts (it’s that slow!).

So, the good news is that, the blog will be running on a faster hosting soon. For those who said it was already ok, should experience even better loading time.

Thanks to the people who have responded to the survey. Here is linklove to the ones who have a blog: www.entrepreneur.com.sg, www.myinvestingblog.com, www.totalwebreview.info, www.layoutprince.com and www.investorblogger.com

Blog loading time

Lately AdesBlog has been loading very slow for me (my location: South-East-Asia/Malaysia). At the moment, it’s hosted on goDaddy.com. I did send an email to goDaddy support about it, but they said that everything was fine on their side.

Maybe it has to do with the latest undersea cable cut.

But I see that goDaddy sites are particularly slower than any other sites that are hosted on non-goDaddy hosts. For example, my AdesDesign is hosted on pair.com and it’s working fine. But then again, pair is located in Australia. And it’s not affected by the cable cut.

I do not know how the blog loads for you guys. There is only one way to find out. Please

and let me know how it is loading for you. It will take about 3 seconds to answer, but the info that I get will be invaluable for me. So thank you in advance!

Based on the poll results, I will either shift the host or stay with goDaddy.

AdesBloQ - what?

adesbloqSearching for the keyword “adesblog” in Google, I stumbled upon this domain name AdesBloq.com (yes with Q), and it’s not my domain. The registrant of the domain name is shown in the screenshot to the right.

I have no idea what was the intention of the registrant to register this domain name. I guess he/she wanted to benefit in some way…

Currently the domain name points to my blog AdesBlog.com

Blogging (un)ethically, and why it matters?

bloging ethicsYesterday I was preparing for one of my MBA final exams, Strategic Management. (Yes that’s why I slowed down with my blogging, sorry about that). One of the topics covered was ethics. It said:

If you have a clear moral compass guiding your priorities and those you set for the company, you will be a more effective leader.

This observation is repeatedly one of the first thing effective leaders mention when they answer a question about what they think is most important in explaining their success as leaders and the success of leaders they admire. ~ McGraw Hill, Formulation, Implementation, and Control of Competitive Strategy.

While reading it, I couldn’t stop but relate it to blogging. How important ethics in blogging? I personally think it’s very important, especially in professional blogging. By professional blogging I refer to bloggers who blog in certain niche, have authority in that particular field, and have large number of regular readers (followers).

Why it’s important that these (popular) blogs be ethical? Well, there are several reasons for that. One of the main reasons is that, some people look up to them - they want to follow in their footsteps, they want to be just like them, and most importantly they are being fed by them on daily basis. So it’s only natural if these bloggers affect them positively. Instead of influencing negatively, and making all the unethical things look normal - as if it was okay to do those (unethical) things.

What constitutes to “Ethical”?

But definition and perception of ethics is very subjective. Behavior that is accepted by one person (or community) as ethical might not be the case with another person (or group of people).

Brittanica dictionary describes ethics as:

the discipline concerned with what is morally good and bad, right and wrong. The term is also applied to any system or theory of moral values or principles. ~Brittanica

People are inherently capable of distinguishing major and distinctive behaviors that are right and that are wrong. (Eg. Cheating, stealing, killing…etc) But when it comes to small things that are not clear, there is always an argument, and you will find people on both sides of the argument. And this is where culture, religion, personal values and principles come to play major role in their decision to determine whether it’s right or wrong.

What constitutes to “non-ethical” in blogging?

Some bloggers like JohnChow have chosen “evil” as their marketing strategy, some bloggers do sponsored reviews for gambling and online casino related sites, some bloggers do not disclose their sponsored reviews and some bloggers go as far as cheating their readers, so that he/she can make few more bucks… all of them are done for the sake of earning more!

I guess for some people, money comes first and everything else second.

I didn’t list all the things that are considered unethical in blogging. That’s for a reason. Because, I want to ask you - readers, for the rest of the list. So, in your opinion, what is unethical in blogging? List the things that you personally think unethical in blogging. (It should not be limited to blog posts alone, it can be anything that is related to blogging, blog design, monetization methods…etc)

I hope readers who read this blog through RSS will take one minute of their time to answer this question too. Thanks in advance!

Popular Posts, Best of AdesBlog.com

I have created a page called Popular Posts, which will contain the best articles of AdesBlog.com. If you are new to AdesBlog, or only recently started reading this blog, then I strongly recommend you to checkpopular posts Popular Posts page. Because it will contain all the useful articles that you might have missed earlier.

One of the disadvantages of blogging is that, the better articles might get buried over time. There are various ways of solving this problem, one of which is creating “Popular Posts” page.

There are of course, different plugins that can create similar pages automatically, based on the number of views the page gets, number of comments the page gets etc. But these methods have one disadvantage, that is, sometimes not relevant and not so useful posts can climb into the list. Especially when they get Digg’ed or Stumbled.

For this reason, in order to keep only the most relevant and useful articles in the list, I have chosen to make a custom “popular posts” page (articles are hand-picked). I am still going through my archives and adding more articles to the list, so make sure you check back the page later.

P.S Do you have a similar page at your blog? What measure you have taken to solve the buried posts problem?

FeedBurner glitch? My RSS count shows 2,088

2KplusDo you see what I see? If you look at my RSS, it’s showing now 2,088 RSS subscribers. I have checked other blogs and I didn’t see any such occurrence. I wish it was real, but it’s probably a glitch. Because logging in to my FeedBurner account showed me that the number of actual RSS subscribers is 821, as shown in the screenshot below.

feedburner countHow is your blog, do you see anything abnormal with your FeedBurner counter? Do you know why it is showing like this?

Probably it’s one of those errors like that happened with Technorati, where it ranked all blogs No.1.

Update: www.problogger.net is reporting the same thing.
Update: It seems like the error is originating from FeedBlitz, read here.
