Seth Godin on How to Successfully Finish Projects

Good advice by Seth Godin, author of many successful books. As he rightly points out, many people launch projects but few succeed in following through and making the project successful.

How to have an ecommerce shop on your Facebook

fb_commerce.jpgPayvment’s E-Commerce Storefront enables you to launch a professional storefront on Facebook. This app gives you everything you need including a full-featured admin area to manage your storefront and products directly from Facebook.

The Payvment tab couples PayPal’s API with Payvment’s shopping cart, allowing you to sell products directly on your Facebook Page… for free! This is a comprehensive app which allows you to add products and assign those products to a category. Payvment’s tab allows you to upload photos, list terms of service, provides shipping options, offer coupons and much much more. Your customers can shop for products like they would from any other e-commerce site, right on Facebook.

One of the coolest features of the Payvment tab is that it is integrated with all other Payvment stores, both on and off Facebook. If a user adds a product to their cart from your store, and later goes to check-out after shopping at another Payvment store, your item will still be in that user’s cart.

Facebook launches “Places”

places.pngFacebook launched Places, an extension to its iPhone application where people can post their location via Places to their Wall on FB. You can also tag your friends who are with you in the same place. Another feature of Places is, you can find friends who are nearby you. Seems like going to be interesting. Unfortunately it’s only available in US at the moment, in Malaysia you only see this blank screen to the right.

Places will directly compete with foursquare, another most popular location tagging application at the moment. Foursquare is not easy to beat though, since it has a competitive advantage; people can use foursqare to get discounts in restaurants, boutiques, shops etc, users also receive funny badges and become a mayor of the places…

It’s going to be interesting in the next few months, how these two apps will be competing with each other.

How to get your questions answered from big companies

getsatisfaction.pngGetSatisfaction like FixYa is a place for you to get answers to your questions. But in GetSatisfaction your questions will be answered by the company representatives themselves and not by the crowd.

Moreover, in GS you can do more than just posting a question, you can actually submit ideas, suggestions, report an issue, give them praise etc. It seems many big companies are already on board with at least a dozen employees on support.

It’s a great way to get answers to your questions. Because usually these big elephants won’t get back to you if you use their contact form on their websites ;) – your emails just get dumped in their database. But here it’s in the open and transparent, so they most probably will answer your questions.

You can also get a feedback widget for your blog from GetSatisfaction like the one I am using from uservoice.

“Golden handshakes” make top executives of ailing companies rich

When the companies are crashing left and right and losing literally billions of dollars in this crisis, who gains the most? It’s the top management of these companies! Because most of the Fortune 500 companies have a thing called “golden handshakes” for their top executives.

A golden handshake is a clause in an executive employment contract that provides the executive with a significant severance package in the case that the executive loses his or her job through firing, restructuring, or even scheduled retirement. This can be in the form of cash, equity, and other benefits, and is often accompanied by an accelerated vesting of stock options.

Typically, “golden handshakes” are offered only to high-ranking executives by major corporations and may entail a value measured in millions of dollars. Wikipedia

golden_parachute.pngCEO’s and top executives of troubled companies have been getting millions of dollars as their compensation for their job loss.

Here is a nice graphical illustration of these statistics. It’s just amazing.

What is your opinion on these compensations, and their amount? Do you think it’s fair? Do you think too much is being given out? Appreciate your feedbacks. I will hold my opinion as not to skew your answers.

P.S. The author wrongly used the phrase “golden parachutes” instead of “golden handshakes”. Golden parachutes refer to the compensations for the job loss by executives due to acquisitions or mergers specifically. However it has been used interchangeably with golden handshakes a lot during this crisis.
