Felipe Melo’s anger costs Brazil a semi-final

Following up on my last post on World Cup, today’s match was an interesting one, Brazil Vs Netherlands.

This image is probably one of the most memorable images of WC 2010 – Brazilian football player Felipe Melo stamping Dutch player Ruben, and subsequently getting a “red card” and leaving the field, leaving Brazil with 10 players, which was a huge blow and ultimately cost them a semi-final?

Ok, now let’s read your opinions :) I am sure many people are angry, and equally many people must be happy.

  1. What a jerk! I despise unsportsman like conduct. These guys are supposed to be leaders. I bet he’s a real treat to be around off the field too. Hope he’s not married.

  2. What a game, just like Uruguay and Guan, Can you say Karma. What comes around, goes around!

  3. Bidet says:

They were losing already when he did it, but Im sure it cost them the game. It is hard to come back when you are down a player. Im sure he regrets doing it. Im glad Brazil is out.

  4. used tires says:

I was really disappointed in Felipe, for his actions, but at the same time, I can’t fault the guy for letting his anger get the best of him. When guys are in the heat of the moment, you sometimes let it get the best of you, I am sure it’s happened to many of us when playing a competitive sport or event.

    Till then,

  5. Yes this is basically this year’s version of Zidane. If he had held his temper perhaps they could’ve made a comeback.

  6. I don’t think he needs to do that. It actually won’t help in the match.

  7. I’m also glad Netherlands won that game. Brazil would lose probably anyway, Dutch were better from the beginning. I hope they will beat Spain in the finale.

  8. Then again, in soccer there aren’t too many comebacks. Usually the leading team can hold on to win with all out defense. Really you should be blaming the whole team for already being down 1-0 at that point.

  9. Buy Property says:

I am also agree with the viewer that if all soccer had held temper then team could’ve made a comeback.

  10. I still can’t believe Brazil lost! I still think they are the overall best team in the world… just didn’t play all that well that one game.

  11. Felipo Melo was act like a sewer. So, his red card was right..

  12. Football is an intense sport both physically and mentally. And with the added pressure of the World Cup it can be difficult to control one’s emotions. Maybe if he had been able to focus his energy on winning the game Brazil could have advanced further.

  13. Oslobåden says:

Brazil wouldn’t have won that match anyway. The act was because of frustrations and the loosing game.

  14. The referee, in good sight of the incident, had no hesitation in pulling out the red card and presenting Felipe Melo with his marching orders.

  15. I remember watching this live and was really upset on seeing this. It’s not at all in the spirit of the beautiful game. :(

  16. This was a shame but the final only got worse anyway.

  17. alot of discrepancies this world cup. Lets hope the next one all these issues are resolved

  18. They were never going to win! Don’t really think it cost them the game.

  19. The football fever had over. I enjoyed every match of this world cup. Very exciting moment was that when Spain bags the World Cup. Tremendous celebration held at Spain when wining team arrived at home. I love to see every match of football no matter the nation.

  20. I was backing Brazil to go all the way, and they sadly disappointed me. The thing about football is that there is still such a big “luck” component. That is why I prefer rugby. The results are more realistic, and the guys dont take dives. They bleed for the cause!

  21. Buzz says:

That’s why i don’t like very much Football within during the world cup sometimes it’s more a fight than sport.

  22. I was backing Brazil, and they sadly disappointed me and lots of their fans. Cant do much now :(

  23. Hey, sorry to get off subject, but that’s a dandy little anti-spam you got there.9+1 is equal to?

  24. Yes the diving in football does take a lot away from the game. There are definitely sports where they compete harder and more honestly. Let’s hope they crack down on diving by fining more repeat offenders.

Really though, Brazil simply didn’t have enough to win the World Cup this year. Netherlands deserved to win that game and they put on a great World Cup Final.

  25. The problem is so many players fake injuries too. That is probably the most annoying thing for me, to see someone fake pain for something that everyone can tell was not even a slight contact, and then get a player penalized for that on top of it. Things like that draw me away from the game more and more.

  26. used tires says:

@car battery starter, unfortunately that’s a part of soccer nowadays, I think if Replays were allowed or something like that, it would help the game tremendously, but I am sure it will be a long time before Fifa actually implements that sort of a thing.

    Till then,

    Jean

  27. The World Cup was awesome overall ! So good games ! >(

  28. earnword says:

    yes. i’m angry too!

  29. no wonder many people angry.

  30. Fully agree with your points here. All the posts are fully informative and having very good themes. I love to visit your blog again and again its really increase my knowledge. Thanks for the awesome post.

  31. I just think that it is sad the example that many of our professional players set for our youth. There are far too many displays of poor sportsmanship out there, and it seems that none of the professional sports are immune from the bad behavior anymore.

  32. What is this guy thinking? He’s not a good sport for doing this to the other player… It’s good that he was reprimanded by the referee…

Got something to say? Go for it!
