Blackberry by Malaysian Telcos

Maxis and Celcom are two major mobile operators in Malaysia. They are always competing head to head with each other. Maxis is the leader with the largest mobile subscriber base of over 12 million users. Celcom is always the No.2, it has a subscriber base of over 10 million users.

Maxis was the first telco given exclusive rights to distribute iPhone in Malaysia last year. This year they lost that exclusivity and now DiGi – another (3rd largest) mobile operator started offering iPhone 3GS + packages. Celcom unfortunately, again, couldn’t get any iPhone deals. Not yet.

All these info leads to next two screenshots. It will be apparent why Celcom is the runner up and why Maxis is the leader. Both companies offer Blackberry services, however searching for “Blackberry” in their respective official websites will yield totally different results.

Millions of funds are spent on marketing and outdoor advertising, yet they cannot even optimize their website for one of the most important products/services they offer – blackberry. Celcom, come on! Get your search fixed!

it’s not only their search result. they should reconsider the whole website.

  4. Yes most companies don’t think when they add a search box to their site that people will use it. Doubt anyone was looking at stats.

    Hey Ades,

This is really an amazing situation in Malaysia. But amidst all this there is a good thing that the users are the one who are benefiting from it.

    Thanks for this information.

  6. OI, that is just wrong. For a business supporting a subscriber base of 10 million plus there is huge room for improvement. Have you contacted them to offer your professional services yet, Ades?

  7. What other kind of activities they are involved to sell products in Malaysia, as they may be having some plans to go ahead with their marketing strategy one by one.

  8. Very good investigation. Optimizing their own website may be 1 of the last things in their mind but they should consider working on it as they may lose potential customers.

  11. If the visitor does not find what he wants then he will go to another available service.

  12. What do you mean, they don’t have Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, etc. in Malaysia!!?!

  13. kelvintang says:

Some company will not spend money on their website because they willing to spend the budget to the “stuff” that they can see. But, in this case, if you sell the product but you do not have the product info, funny, right?

I think for them, online is just part of the small plan for them.

Ades, I think is time for you to write an email and teach them.

maxis and celcom. Just wonder if Digi will do something about that..

  18. That is not so good for such large companies. They should do something about it soon. It looks like there is a problem.
