Google Docs, Backup All Your Files
In case you didn’t know, Google Docs now allows you to upload any types of files to your account, not only word docs, pdfs and spreadsheets like before but virtually any type of files.
It can basically serve you as an alternative backup space for all your important data. Google also makes it very easy to share your files with your friends. And if 1GB space is not enough you can easily add up to 16TB (yes terabyte) additional disk space. For example additional 20GB disk space will only cost you $5 per year, more details on pricing here.

It seems Google really wants to know more about you :) The more info and files you give to them, the happier they will get. But frankly, what would we do without Google and it’s free services?

People still worry on the privacy on storage in the cloud. Anyway, 1GB free storage is already good for me :D

yap. why not?

This sounds like yet another useful service from Google. 1gb is quite a lot of storage space for most people. The rates for more storage sound very reasonable too.

This is really a mind boggling service has been provided by the google to his viewers, because viewers will enjoy a lot. And the most important thing google is giving 1GB downloading facility totally free.

It is still a little concerning. It’s a bit to much “big brother” for my liking. Google know evrything we look at, do they really need our personal files as well. There are still hackers in the world, remember!
By Lisa on Feb 24, 2010
My biggest concern would be my private information being hacked into. Not everything is 100% full proof. Google know too much already.

Wow, this is really great news. Google has started it move towards to file hosting and sharing business. IMO, 20GB space for $5 worth.

Thanks Ades.

Google docs definitely has great worth to it, especially for freeing up resources on your own computer. I am using it for a common project where I am collaborating remotely with people, and for a free service it is absolutely amazing!
By Laptop Carrying Case on Mar 2, 2010
It seems like Google is offering this service as part of future cloud computing systems. Google envisions a scenario where most of a computer’s files are stored online somewhere. So it makes sense that they would offer an affordable online storage solution.

Google’s Goal is to index all of the worlds information, so why not let you upload everything you have. The can also test their conversion process this way. Still not all documents can be converted and even if you don’t want your files converted google can still test “anonymously” not that your data isn’t safe, but google is a search company. They need data.

Every time you wish a VA handled a repetitive task for you, find a tool that will help you out with it instead. I had a friend who hired someone to backup his Google Docs files one by one, but there’s actually a free and simple way to do that with the right Firefox extensions

I am looking for information regarding maximum size of Google Docs folder which you can have on their server. I am not looking for individual file limits. But some total of all documents, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.
By Webmaster Interviews on Apr 3, 2010
Great news for people like me who are always on the go and have less o no space to carry all those official documents with us without damaging them. And it seems to be quite cheap too.

Online hard drives are definitely a new trend that’s catching on fast. Space is probably the main constraint as you can get so much more on external hard drives and the like, but it’s definitely got its advantages, and as usual, Google won’t be one to be left behind. :)
Till then,
Jean

Check out Gladinet Cloud Desktop at http://www.gladinet.com. Its free and makes it very easy to backup google docs and spreadsheets. You can mount your google docs folders as local folders on your desktop and then move files back and forth between google and your desktop like you would with any other local folder. You can also create scheduled backups of local content to Google Docs or a Redundant Array of Cloud Storage.

I doubt it whether Google can totally assure complete privacy and security with the uploaded files. Like, what will happen if their system is down and I can’t access my important files? I guess there should be more things to improve when it comes to security and reliability.

I started using Google Docs this afternoon but it was hell of a trouble. It was very slow and GMAIL is also affected. I don’t know if Google is doing Site Maintenance but if ever they did, they should have some notifications.
