Well, as you know the whole internet is going crazy about the new product of Apple, iPad. I just wanted to know what is your opinion on it? As a product and what its impact will be on the PC industry in general. For sure it’s going to strangle Amazon’s Kindle, will probably cannibalize Apple’s own product – MacBook, because with iPad you can pretty much do anything what you would normally do with normal notebooks/netbooks. It also comes with accessories like doc, casing and keyboard in case you want to use it like a real notebook with real keyboards.
I personally think that it’s an amazing product, it will be particularly popular with marketing professionals who would benefit from this kind of beautiful tablet PC (Mac) for their presentation purposes. As with normal people, they would enjoy it for reading e-books and browsing the internet. And of course, there will be tons of great apps that will make the iPad more valuable and usable than it actually is.
One thing disappointed me though… the photo-frame like edges of the iPad. I thought some of the photoshopped ones prior to the launch looked a lot better. I know that they did this out of usability, so that there would be a place around the device that is not-touch-sensitive. This would make your handling of the iPad easier, it wouldn’t interfere with your work, you wouldn’t accidentally launch some apps..etc. However they could have left the preferences of the not-touch-sensitive margin to the user. Don’t you think?
For example, if you like all four sides to be touch-sensitive you could set all four margins to zero. If you like to hold the left-side while using, you could set only left side margin to 1″ and the rest of the sides to zero…. you know what I mean? Basically, it would be just like the Word document where you can specify the margin of your paper before you print. But anyway…
How about you? What’s your thoughts on this product of Apple? I would like to know your opinions, leave your comments under this post.

I would take this when travelling. Maybe if I had to take a bus everyday or worked on the beach. Much better than the Kindle anyway.
Apple iPad is amazing. I watch the video of it. Great functionality and usability of it.
It doens’t support multitasking and Acrobat Reader. Else I was thinking to get one.
I think in it’s current avatar, iPad is not very enticing. It is just a bigger and fast iPod touch and it HAS TO support multitasking to be of any practical use. Maybe Apple will add support for it in rev 4.0 of the iPhone/iPad SDK.
I think the ipad lacks features. Its a “fancy” phone but i would expect more for the price. I hope they keep improving it.
Personally I think this is going to be a big fail for Apple. It’s just an oversized iPhone, without the phone! Seems rather pointless to me. I won’t be getting one.
(sorry for the dup post – get my ‘name’ wrong last time…)
I usually think Apple stuff is cool, although due to being overpriced I’ve never bought anything from them, but I really don’t see the appeal of the iPad, apart from the interface and being nice and light.
It’s alright for Jobs to slag off netbooks, but a netbook will run any windows app, that’s tens of thousands of apps, many of which are free and I already know how to use. A netbook also has much better connectivity, a real keyboard (not a seperate keyboard dock at additional cost), far more storage for the price etc. I can also change the OS on a netbook. The latest netbooks like the EEE 1201N with the dual core CPUs and nVidia Ion (8400M GPU) even have respectible gaming performance (search for 1201N on youtube). I’d take features and versatility over cool anyday.
Till then,
Jean
I think it’s going to be the next big thing. A lot f people are tired of squinting to see content on their iPhone, but don’t want to fork out the dosh for a macbook (even though it kicks ass!) Hopefully this has come about from research that shows a huge market of people who want that “in between” model. It will be a while yet before they are available in Australia, so i’ll wait a bit until all the bugs are worked out of it
I have read on newspaper that it has alot of mistakes
No multitasking? Probably won’t buy it but it is a kindle dx killer.
I personally think that, iPad will have a more nice update soon. SO will wait for the updates a little more.
The complaints about their lack of Flash support have been growing. People said the same thing about Java, Flash, etc. It doesn’t matter – if it is what is being used to make content online, it needs to be supported. It’s like Mozilla saying, you know – we don’t like HTML 4 or 5, so we are only going to support the standards up to 3 in Firefox.
It’s no different than Microsoft and their Active X. I hate that here at work I still have to use Internet Exploder because so many companies out there still use Active X for accessing their products, back-end information, etc. If it’s used – it needs to be supported.
Till then,
Jean
Good device no offense. But don’t you think price kept for ipad is too high?
I have to resonate with everyone else- it’s just a glorified Apple iPod touch.
Yeah, the bigger screen is nice, but for $499 these days you can get a real desktop with some kicking power.
As for me, I’d rather have the desktop :)
Okay, while this is a new buzz thing. Really what I am seeing is an oversized iphone/ipod touch. There really is nothing upgraded, fancy, or new really thrilling benefits for this new ipad.
I mean, can we get an true upgrade such as camera, 3g, or flash!
It just seems like a big iphone to me, trying to compete with laptops, but being nowhere near as good. So a big no no from me.
The iPad is currently the talk of the Web. I am happy Apple has again shown the innovations in technology. It’s certain that the iPad will be very useful to one and many. I think it’s a great device but, from what I’ve read everywhere, it contains flaws as well.
Personally I think it’s a piece of junk with limited applications. Who would want to type much on a hand held tablet? Your wrists would get sore from not being at the best angle and your neck would be sore from looking downwards too much. I’m pretty sure that I’ll never own one of these.
Too many things to consider for further improvement of iPad
i do agree that i like it.
I’ve thought about doing the same thing when they become available. I like it for the Google Maps feature on the 3G model.
iPAD’s name must be change since it is quite synonymous with feminine stuff.
But I do like the features that this tool brings up for the public convenience not just for competition and market innovation.
I like this one, this is amazing and it’s even better than kindle.
The iWork stuff interested me, but that is all.
It needs flash support and it seems it does not. I still think it needs a camera on it. Nothing on that.
I guess it is what I thought it would be honestly. I just figured we would see some OS 4.0 updates at the event also. Seems it is application based only and still can not run two programs at once.
Most of the Apple products they announce I see where it fits in where they are trying to sell it. This I don’t. Not your best work Apple. I honestly figured a mini laptop really. Seems like a phone only without the phone. I’d rather stick with a MacBook and iPhone right now.
So what is the general consensus on the Amazon Kindle Vs the iPad?
I’ll admit I don’t know much about the Kindle, but as far as I understand it does everything the IPad does except have an app. store.
Jean that is part of the problem with the ipad…it is simply not useful for most people. There are few practical situations where we might prefer to have an ipad instead of a laptop. As it is now, it is just a luxury that most of us will not see a need for. Perhaps that will change as more people buy them and they become more mainstream.
The iPad is definitely going to be a hit with the brand conscious folks, and at $499 it is not a bank breaker, and tons of iPod generation kids will be getting iPads to match with their iPhones. Personally I’ll wait for the second or even third generation before buying one, but they are bound to become more expensive too.
I was hoping for a lot more quite honestly. No video! That’s a huge problem… if apple added a video camera then that alone would probably entice me to buy one. But unfortunately the hype didn’t live up to the product. I guess i’m just going to have to look forward to the upcoming new iPhone.
I think that it’s too early to tell whether the ipad will be a bust or not. Everyone knows that whatever Apple pitches generally sells very well so we will have to see how it turns out.
I’ve been digging around on it a bit more and heres the problems I see with it aside from no flash.
1. Battery life is suspect. They are quoting times with nothing to back it. I also get 9.5 hours reading pdf’s on my netbook, 6 hours surfing the web, and 4.5 hours watching video. They are claiming 10 hours no matter what. They need to back this up.
2. No changable battery. This makes since though since it uses a lithium polymer which have a tendency to explode.
3. USB I can’t find anything about it.
4. No SD card or anything? How am I supposed to transfer my files to it?
5. Pricing. A 64GB 3G model will run you over $800
Heres what I actually like about it, lol
1. High quality screen.
2. Unlocked GSM, finally they unlocked something, in a way.
3. Touchscreen, I won’t argue apple is pretty good at this.
This is accompanied by a shot of the frame alongside the camera from a MacBook. It’s a perfect fit. The only thing that seems weird on this last point is that Apple is already sending out parts. The much-hyped launch of Apple’s new tablet-style computer yesterday has done little to change my belief that it’s a solution looking for a problem. Apple’s says the iPad is a “magical and revolutionary device at an unbelievable price”. But who really needs it? iPhone users already have access to the thousands of apps in the Apple App Store. In ipad 10 major problem in all of them 1st is a Battery life. “Up to 10 hours” is unlikely to be more than a claim in real-world situations. Turn on wi-fi or 3G and expect to need to charge it twice a day. and 2nd is No camera. That means no video chat or Skype video calling. Some people use such things a lot, I’m reliably informed. This 2 are a most problematic thing.
Everyone knows that whatever Apple pitches generally sells very well so we will have to see how it turns out.
i have to wait till the price drop. after i would like to have an ipad :)
This is not designed for people like us, who are power users. It is designed for the people that just want something simple to carry around, that works when they want it to, without any hassles. I’ve been through too many bad hard drives, memory chips, overheating problems, bad case fans, bad optical drives, faulty drivers, viruses, spyware, system hogging run in the background leeching software for anyone to convince me that the iPad/ipod/iphone isn’t as good as a netbook/laptop. I’ve had my ipod touch for a year now and it has never locked up on me once. Ever. I cant say the same for any one of the computers in my house, or my work. Or my DVR for that matter. Man, I wish apple made a DVR. :)
Till then,
Jean
I absolutely love the ipad, but i’m slightly dissappointed that there’s no usb port! And the prices are a bit high.
What i have to worried about IPAD is if stolen, it has no feature like the one in the iPhone that would permit the Administrator to lock it from an unauthorised possessor.
that product is simply “old”. and pls, don’t call ereader….with that screen isn’t an e-reader….if you are searching for a very interesting ereader….take a look at this (italian, but at the end there is a link to the english version) http://bit.ly/8YHItj
I think ipad need some useful and prolific features, so it can useful more and people can enjoy while using the ipad.
oh..i believe many people like ipad.
Exactly as some one above said, they are becoming more and more costly when they upgrade version. I’d certainly suggest to wait for some time before buying first edition.
Hi there Ades. I just want to make a suggestion – can you get threaded comments? It would be so nice to be able to reply directly to some of the other commentator’s wisdom.
? agree to marketing man, threated comments would be better :)
I just heard this product is not like people imagined before its launched :D
I think that the main limitation of the iPad is going to be the lack of ability to multitask. That is where the MacBook sales are going to hold up well, it’s just not powerful enough to replace the MacBook, and Apple knew this! At the price it’s being offered at, it was never intended to touch the MacBook market, only the Kindle.
If people are buying $400 e-book readers I’m sure they’d buy the iPad.
Till then,
Jean
I heard many things about iPad. Some of them were good, some were bad. But those bad opinions I hear more often. I heard that there is no multitasking and not even one single ability to connect iPad with other device (e.g. no USB connection).
I dont like the size of the ipda. it looks sooo big. I wonder how people will take it with them.
I have read on newspaper that it has alot of mistakes
Turn on wi-fi or 3G and expect to need to charge it twice a day :)
Apple isn’t producing the ipad for the uber geeks no thy are are smart they want the next TV not the next high tech gadget. The IPAD will go well with the masswes, even if it doesn;t get the tech vote.
still not interested. I’m fine without it.
The very small number of super humans that want to do all that just have to admit that the iPad/iPhone is not for them :-)
Till then,
Jean
I’m just glad the ipad is finally launched so that people finally stop talking about it. It was all hype for a device that is quite impractical.
The 3G version is not free, the new iPad will start at $499 and can cost more then $800 for the 3G version which will be released after the WiFi version
Some days ago in my school i need create presentation about iPod. So when i saw this article i don’t have op opinion, but now a has. So i think it is another apple unnecessary product. why we need this – yes great design but function choice is terrible, like first iPhone. I don’t know i think for portable computer need more functions.
em..i love to have one ipad. But i believe it expensive, right?
I think this is a great product, technology is just awesome. I just wish apple could have come up with a better name. It sounds a bit like an electronic maternity product!
from your review it look i dont interesting on this apple product. and i don’t like the design.
this is direct competition to amazon kindle ?
i wont buy this until they address the multi-tasking problem…why cant you surf the net while listening to your ipod functonality? the hardware is there…it boggles my mind.
If people are buying $400 e-book readers I’m sure they’d buy the iPad.
this features is cool and interesting than to other technology.i really like this one, because it has accessories like doc, casing, and keyboard.it’s different to other ipad i’ve seen.thanks..
Maybe, iPad is good and suitable for busy businessman.
This post sure has created a lot of response. When will the first units be available for reviews & the like? Does anybody know?
I Waiting for next version, with Wifi and USB
iPad would be a great device, however price kept for the device is lil bit high, iphone contains the most of its features, than i don’t understand for what market it has been going to launched.
Funny, while some posts are indeed objective and attempt to understand the strengths and weaknesses of platforms, most say far more about the insecurities of the poster than the inadequacies of the product.
The news here is there will be a new, elegant, professional appearing set of these devices and what that will mean for both personal and business needs. If you can’t think of a dozen uses for these things in product presentation, support and facilitating real time transactions, you are hopelessly mired in inspecting your own navel.
Till then,
Jean
Personally, I think it’s an overall y large ipod touch that isn’t necessary.
Think it’s one of the most pointless devices ever. No multi-tasking is a massive downfall. Plus it’s basically a giant iPod touch – but you won’t be able to sue it with one hand because it’s too big… Impractical…
I was pretty excited about this when i see the video reviews etc. Now when i have given it some thought and discussed it with my friends it seems rather pointless.
So thumbs down from me, sorry apple baby.
B.
:) hey i didn’t mean to spam, if that’s the reason why my comments been deleted..
I seriously find the ipad an apple fail.
Because i really find that you can get a same size laptop with much more possibilities to do.
As for iPad, it seems like a gadget what you can show off to your friends..
Peace,
B.
Please delete this and the last one :)..
i’m starting to go blind
I have read the comments and have found that both sides (for and against) make some good points in regard to the product. I must admit I was a bit skeptical once I first heard about it, but after watching apples “introducing the ipad” video on youtube I became more convinced that there was a real need for a product like this on the market. I look forward to seeing how sales are during its first week.
iPad is indeed a good product from apple but it also does come with lot of disadvantages. It doesnt support a lot of features and price is also bit high.
Apple iPad is amazing.
I just heard this product is not like people imagined before its launched
Thanks for article :)
I can’t wait till the iPad comes out so that I can get a new one!
I don’t think it’s going to sell all that well.
It’s a mediocre device with almost nothing to offer over the iphone and ipod touch except a bigger screen. It’s already generating a “meh” from the press.
I think Apple may have struck out with this one…
It’s a waste. I think it’s completely unusable. I wish they would have installed a full OSX operating system on it, capable of multi task, flash support and a forward facing camera.
Though, I hear sales are overly high, I could be wrong… but it’s not my cup of tea.
Most regular iPhone apps work on the iPad, but they look ridiculously small, like the Mona Lisa on a billboard. An icon lets you magnify iPhone apps to iPad size, but the results are often blurry.
I am an iPhone user and love it and I really like the idea of the iPad type netbook replacing tablet – instant on and ten hours of use without charging, but for the above reasons I’m going to wait for V2 or to see what other manufacturers do with Google Android.
This will probably become the standard in the portable video player market and will annihilate the ebook reader competition. I think it will be the tech gift of choice for girls, moms and g-ma’s, and non-techy dads. Those savvy people won’t have it, but the average joe will want it for movies and casual browsing.
Apple iPad… Does it look cool? Yes! Is it a cool toy to play with? Yes. Will I be buying one? No. To me, its just not worth the money to buy one. Personally I feel that Apple hasn’t really done anything innovative as of late. And this Apple iPad is just an extension of their recent products. I think Apple needs to come up with something new, and innovative, just like they did with their iPod, which really in my opinion started it all.
According to me Apple is the best. though I-pad included all the latest features but it is not comfortable in size. And all its features are available in i-phone and mac. So I think it would not get the desired popularity among peoples.
what do I think! This is 1 of those must get gadgets. I don’t have the money to get myself 1 now but it is going on my Christmas list.
I’ve been an Apple Fan Boy for 15 years, love them but … I never buy anything on the first generation and iPad is the same for me.
It now supports multitasking with OS 4.0
This is a very professional approach for marketers and service providers who want to have clients get a more pleasant idea of their products and services, pretty much what I use it for :)
Been using an ipad for month and I still feel that it is just another ipod touch with bigger screen.
Apple is coming out with ipad2 in a few months time. However I am not sure will it sell this time giving that ipad was kind of a letdown to many.
Hope it can do more and now what other of it product line can already do
This is really a cool gadget that came out in the market.. I also wanted to buy 1 but at this point of time the price is still high.. I wish it will get a little bit cheaper so I can buy 1.. It is really cool! How I wish I can get 1 anytime soon..
Hey, you applied to write great articles, but the very last several posts are kinda boring… I miss your super writing. Previous few posts are just a little bit out of track!
Great blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m totally overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Bless you!
