Some people don’t like backlinks
Posted in » SEO & Promotion - by Ades on November 24th, 2009
Some people just don’t like free backlinks, even if the number of backlinks are over 2000 :) Here is an email I got recently:

Yes, as requested I removed his backlinks from the blog. I guess he is like a Rupert Murdoch.

Can’t believe this !! A person who has 2000 backlinks did not want backlinks which are absolutely free.

By marcus@how to make money on Nov 25, 2009
Either this person knows a lot about back linking then the rest of us…or he knows nothing about the importance of back linking. I am not sure which. Could you possibly email him back and ask him why he does not want the 2000 free backlinks?
By Fatin Pauzi on Nov 25, 2009
Hye, Ades.
If he/she didn’t like the backlinks, just change it to mine. Haha. This is the first time I heard about this. Very funny or he/she has his/her reason to do that?
By ikat on Nov 25, 2009
This is funny. LOL. This man might be afraid to google. Doesn’t he know that the more link the better?
By Used Tires on Nov 25, 2009
That certainly is a first… is it possible that it is a fake email of someone trying to get someone else’s name banned?
Till then,
Jean

One has to chuckle at this naive mail. If the links was from a spammy source I would understand, but Ades’ Blog has a great reputation overall. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth!
By The Guru on Nov 25, 2009
That’s weird. While all the people loves backlink but this guy has different idea. Maybe just change his name to my name as top commentator :D

By Legitimate work at home jobs on Nov 25, 2009
Hmmmmm, Its really make me crazy, why he want to remove backlink from your blog?
By fences on Nov 26, 2009
Yah, bing just released guidelines saying not to get a ton of links really fast like that. Which is stupid in my opinion because if they penalize a site for that, that means that competitors can do that to each other to hurt the others site performance. Which should never be a part of any serp’s algorithm.

Maybe is this the reason: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/11/hard-facts-about-comment-spam.html ? (Abusing comment fields of blog sites is a risky way of getting links to your site)
By iPod on Nov 27, 2009
I don’t think he/she is being silly at all. Although Google demerits the authority from sitewide links (2000 links from the same domain will be treated as a single link by Google), the other search engines are not so clever. Getting 2000 links in one day from the same domain could cause problems for a new site, and perhaps he has recently lost some rankings and is trying to fix the problem?
By La Digue on Nov 27, 2009
Hahahahahaha!!! Really hilarious post. Really, some people do hate backlinks! It’s one of the best articloes I’ve seen so far today!
By Mauritius Resto on Nov 27, 2009
Somebody who hates backlinks must surely be from some other some alien planet in the Universe!
By Techadictos on Nov 28, 2009
@SeoKid that means I have to settle the matter? google what is doing? just recommended me?
By abrablog on Nov 28, 2009
haha..that kind of people still exist? haiya..
By mini laptop on Nov 28, 2009
Abdes, it is true. Some people don’t like because they fear this can hurt their rankings. While top commenting widget can help, but we are not sure if they can give us rankings or get us ban for quick links.
So many are skeptical and do this. It is good that you have responded to that person and removed the links.
By Valencia on Nov 28, 2009
Hi!
its me who wrote that mail to Ades!
I know all about importance of backlinks, i have some knowlegde of SEO,
page that had all those links was droped from top page in google, because in one week link count from 50 went to over 2000 so, when i Tried rank for that keyword i had 50 links from lot of pages with my keywords in anchortext, but then there is 2000 links with not my keyword so google didnt likeed that.
So this is my experience with link from blog top commentators plugin,
its not bad, i use it for other websites, but im not going to use with pages that i want rank for specific keywords, tho i was in top 1 in yahoo ;)
so you all still think that im from Other planet!?!
But now im back in rankings ;)
By Naz on Nov 28, 2009
Wow. Thanks for your explanation Valencia. I need to learn more about SEO. Thanks to you too Ades for making this post. Awesome! =)
By Techadictos on Nov 28, 2009
i know a lot of web dont have backlink if he keyword and they are in the top and have hight traffic.
By Minnesota Attorney on Nov 29, 2009
I’m surprised about this misconception that backlinks could somehow hurt your website. If that were true, you could hurt your competitor’s websites by creating “bad backlinks” to them.
By clickonpost on Nov 29, 2009
I know him, he know what he do..
By Techadictos on Nov 30, 2009
So, i just need to “create” a backling of my competition to harm him? LOL
By earnword on Nov 30, 2009
might be have a reason to do that. HOho..
By Legitimate work at home jobs on Nov 30, 2009
I think he feared by seeing lost of backlink from your blog. I also see lots of backlink from your blog.
By mini laptop on Nov 30, 2009
@Valencia,
Its great that you replied to this post. I am also a webmaster and SEO. You are skeptical as your link count shot from 50 to 2000 in just a week or so. To be frank Google is aware of this. Google knows that these links are from top commenter widget and from the same place in the same website. So they will devalue them and credit you accordingly.
You pointed out that Google does’t valued it. I have a different thought on this. G will not matter this and rank accordingly. You also said that you r ranking was gained once Ades removed the links. This is also not that much valid.
While rankings can change from time to time. This fact can not change rankings this much!!!
These are my thoughts. Guys, any thoughts further on this?
By valencia on Nov 30, 2009
@mini laptop,
Hi, thnx for reply.
I work with more pages that are similar, and i usually track where i put links and how its effecting my ranking, and when my rankings changed, all i did was this blog commenting, there was some other cases when i did things that google didn’t liked, and after removing bad links, next time G indexed those links page was back. But one page for one keyword is out already for few months, and i don’t know what i did wrong :D and i didn’t wanted wait and see that this will affect my rankings for a longterm, and i just wrote mail to ades.
Thnx for sharing your experience!
By mini laptop on Nov 30, 2009
@valencia: Yes, it is really annoying. Sometime we will not know what G thinks. It is good that Ades is active in his blog and removed his links. Some blog owner check their admin panel once in a month. And in that case we are screwed :)
By valencia on Nov 30, 2009
@mini laptop,
it looks that you have a some god knowledge of seo, maybe you want share your top 5 things you do for seo?
it would be interesting for me what other people do not just read what should be done!
By mini laptop on Nov 30, 2009
@valencia: Thanks for your compliment. These are the top things that I do for websites. They are based on the flow in which I start my SEO work.
1) I will prepare contents and upload the website.
2) I will write some interesting articles and post it in article website. Mainly I post it in ezinearticles.
3) Do some social bookmarking.
After the above three steps the website will get cached for sure. Now here is the toughest part. Link building.
> I will do some dofollow high PR commenting on some reputed forums.(Also do some low PR relevant blog commenting simultaneously)
> Now directory submission and profile link building.
> Meanwhile update the content and submit few more articles.
By this time the website should get good serps. If not continue the above process untill you get results. There is no stopping to this!
But sometimes we never know what is happening. We just need to experiment and see :(
Above technique works well for websites and for blog it is little different. I request you to go through this post -> http://www.adesblog.com/2009/11/30/edward-khoo-on-bloggers-block/#comment-125648
Thanks again and all the best for your project!
David

@mini laptop
Thnx for sharing this, yes its a grate plan, my is a little bit different. And how you do social bookmarking? what the best sites, that get indexed fast and is worth to submit? again just your experience and thoughts?
;)
Eduard
By mini laptop on Nov 30, 2009
Hi Eduard,
Regarding your query for social bookmarking -> I have one great suggestion on this. Prepare a document about your website and upload with your link in scribd.com
I bet you will get indexed in less than 20 minutes with the above idea. Sometimes I got indexed in less than 4 minutes.
Some other great social bookmarking websites are folkd.com, digg.com, mixx.com.
Hope that helps you. I fear Ades, might think that we are bumping this post now :) Is it Ades :) ????!

Lol that is a funny e-mail. He obviously has no clue about how backlinks help. Of course there is also the possibility that some competitor faked this e-mail. Or maybe he’s just super paranoid after reading someone say that Google doesn’t like sitewide links.
By Minnesota Attorney on Dec 2, 2009
Again, if backlinks could be “bad,” then a company could use a “bad backlinks” campaign to hurt a competitor’s website rankings in Google. I’ve never seen any evidence that Google would allow that.
By Turning Winds on Dec 2, 2009
What he/she is think of? Actually you can see on the e-mail itself how dumb he/she is. :)
By Lee Ka Hoong on Dec 3, 2009

Thanks Valencia, David and Ades, this is very interesting, I have a few sites that rank well for my name but not my keyword because I used to sign with my name, so 2000 links with the wrong keyword could harm your ranking.
