Problogger is a very good place to have guest posts on, and it is a big feather in your cap posting there, really giving you good authoprity, Mr Ades.
My trick for getting a new site indexed quickly is to go and post comment on a few prominent blogs, using the URL and relevant anchor text. The Google Bots find you quick-quick that way.

ehm..i believe many people want to have chance like that. Just do our best.
I think is getting easier to be index by Google compares to few years back, maybe their spider crawl was more efficient now.
