Chance for you to make money with Facebook usernames
If you login to your facebook now, it will show you a notice at the top of the page which reads:
Soon you will be able to have a username
Starting on Saturday, June 13th, at 12:01pm, you’ll be able to choose a username for your Facebook account to easily direct friends, family, and coworkers to your profile…
That means you will be able to choose any keyword for your account, for most it would be their names but for many others who want to make money that would mean registering new dummy accounts and getting like these keywords below:

.
Obviously you won’t be able to get keywords like facebook.com/google or any other keyword that is copyrighted, trademarked or infringes someone else’s Intellectual Property. Facebook says regarding this:
Can Facebook take back a username that has already been claimed?
Facebook reserves the right to remove and/or reclaim any username at any time for any reason. What should I do if someone’s username infringes my intellectual property or publicity rights?
If you wish to report that someone’s username infringes your intellectual property rights, please fill out our automated IP infringement form. source
Nevertheless, I think there will be great opportunities for those who will be able to get the valuable keywords or key-phrases as usernames for their facebook accounts. Obviously if the keyword is popular, he/she could sell it to the interested parties in the future (unless facebook comes up with some “terms of use” that will make it illegal to buy/sell facebook accounts).
What’s your opinion on this? Are you getting any keywords?

How do you come up with these ideas? That’s an amazing find. It sounds like it could be pretty useful, providing facebook don’t catch on and there is no “misuse”. Selling the facebook profiles when you’re finished with your keywords would definately be a good option and bring in a bit of much-needed cash as well

Facebook is preventing Squatting by not allowing profiles created after the announcement to create vanity addresses, so, no, unless you’re willing to sell you existing account, or you had dummy accounts already created you won’t be able to vanity-squat

Just to add to my comment, here is the quote from the Facebook blog when they made the annoucement
“if you signed up for a Facebook Page after May 31 or a user profile after today at 3 p.m. EDT, you may not be able to sign up for a username immediately because of steps we’ve taken to prevent abuse or “squatting” on names. “

@jjmelo, i see. if that is the case then it will be quite difficult to get new accounts. maybe people will resort to getting those keywords with their existing account and for their personal account get a new one again.

This is the first I’ve heard of this. It sounds like there’s real potential to make some money here, unless facebook takes steps to prevent it.

Looks like quite a good feature if you use the same username all over the net.
