GCube: Free Online Leave Application System
GCube is a newly developed free online leave application and management system for SMEs. If the company that you work for is still using paper and making you run here and there to get your leave approved, then ask your boss to check this application out. It’s free, so has nothing to lose!
It’s locally developed web application by Malaysian startup called Green Cube Solutions Sdn Bhd. I had the privilege to work with the CEO of this startup Ganee Baharudin back in 2004 at one of the local IT companies.
Currently the system has two fully completed modules running, more modules are expected to be added in the future. If you use the sytem, do let them know about your experience and where you would like to see improvements. I am sure they would appreciate that.

I didn’t actually think about companies still using paper, but I guess some of them must! This would definately be a good idea for any companies who are.. it will save them an enormous amount of time!

I went and had a look at their offering. It is still in beta testing and they are inviting willing participants to try it out. I do foresee that the traditional HR department is going to significantly benefit from this kind of setup.

Looks like a great tool for smaller companies. Larger companies tend to want to pay for these things for guaranteed service etc.

My wife and I are expecting our first child in Feb ‘08. She is planning to take time off from work after her delivery, to take care of the baby. We are wondering how much leave she will be allowed.

My bosses usualy hate free software. They’d rather pay and get full technical support and someone to complain to than to get a free counterpart and hear “if you weren’t so cheap you’d have tech support now” once something breaks.
