PickyDomains – let others pick domains for you

pickydomains.pngThis is an interesting business model and a useful tool for those who want ‘outside the box’ ideas for their new websites’ domains.

Let’s say you are launching a new online project and thinking of finding a suitable domain name for it. You have brainstormed yourself and have listed some domain names, but you are unsure if they are creative enough or web2.0 enough. So you think, only if I could use the creativity of the internet users for this task!

PickyDomains is a website that allows you to utilize the internet users’ ideas… It’s not free but for $50 you could land a ‘million dollar domain name’ so to speak. So it works like this, you give $50 to them and wait for suggestions to flow in… once you like particular domain name you chose it to purchase it. All suggested domain names are available domain names, system will automatically check and discard the registered domain names.

And the best part is if you don’t like any of the suggested domain names, you will get back your $50.

Making Money with Picky Domains

If you have creative mind you might want to try making money with Picky Domains. You can sign up as contributor and if your suggested domain name is picked by the buyer, you will get 50% of $50, that is $25 for each accepted domain name.

interesting. We still can make money with this one. I like it.

  2. It’s hard to find good domain names these days. This seems like a cheap version of a consumer focus group. This service is cheap enough that small businesses could use it to expand on the list of domain names they are considering buying.

  3. That’s a really cute idea. I’m not sure it’ll actually catch on but it’s a very fresh way to approach a growing problem that we’re all facing.

  4. Melody says:

I’ll definitely sign up as a contributor!

  5. I really like this business model because it is a way of getting other opinions without too much hassle. It’s always better to have other opinions so that you know what you’re doing is the right thing!

  6. I like this business model too. It’s better to have other opinions.
    thanks you for sharing.

  7. Good domain names are becoming increasingly scarce, and I must say that this seems like a great idea to get other people’s input. I like the $25 bonus I can receive for being the contributor of an accepted domain name. As a contributor, do you have to manually check the availability of the domain names you are suggesting, or how does it work?

  8. Sounds like a very good idea, especially for a small business

  9. What a clever idea. I have often found it hard to come up with good domain names and for $50 that is a bargain.

@Marketing Man, system automatically checks if the domains are available when you are suggesting

That is a nice site, and I’ll definitely use it. I seem to have some sort of addiction when it comes to buying domain names!!

  13. titan says:

if the domain already being use or bought, they will ask us to change. Just one domain got declined. Wa…

  14. This sounds like something worth trying out. Thanks.

  16. PickyDomains sounds like a great idea! Two heads are better than one, but plenty heads should really prove to be very effective!

Picky domains is pretty cool and has actually been around for some time now. I signed up as a contributor there several months ago and while I don’t devote hardly any time to it, it’s kind of fun once in awhile. My suggestions were picked for two sites so far, which is kind of cool…

  18. That sounds like a good idea. It´s extremely difficult to find a short, descriptive .com domain name these days.

  19. cdl test says:

is there any risk that if you use this service, you will end up losing some of the available domain names to “domain poachers” (folks looking at available domains)

  20. Real interesting! First time I’ve hard of this domain model. Sometimes I have trouble thinking of new names so I will remember this for nex

I just wanted to point out that there is a very similar site out there called http://www.demandyourdomain.com. As well as domain name suggestions, you can request and offer logo suggestions. The site is brand new so there is not much traffic, but we are hoping traffic will increase in the near future. We assure all contributors that they will be paid for their services. We are here to run a trustworthy business and hope to build a large clientele. Please, check it out and let us know if you have any issues!

The idea of signing up as a contributor seems to be good. But
    1. how can the contributor know whether any buyer has picked the the suggested domain name?
    2. who will ensure that the suggested domain name will not be registered by others fraudulently without intimating the contributor? If that can be done by domain tasters why not others?

Had these doubt not disturbed me I would have gone for this route definitely.

  25. Abhijit Medhi says:

I would have been reassured if the site/blog were a BBB accredited business with high rank.
