Kindle2 Usability Review

Usability guru Jakob Nielsen takes on Amazon’s Kindle2 usability. His verdict:

Amazon’s new e-book reader offers print-level readability and shines for reading fiction, but it has awkward interaction design and poor support for non-linear content.

… Awkward pointing + slow reaction = a bad user experience that discourages people from exploring and attempting different tasks.

This review makes me feel like to wait for Kindle3, was really looking forward to purchase one. Anyone knows any other (brand) good ebook reader?

    Sony’s PRS-700 maybe ?

  3. I’m thinking about buying this one, though not sure yet

  4. Yeah, I’ve seen a few reviews on the net saying it’s not very good, which is a shame. Then again, I’d prefer to read a book anyway :)

  5. I think it looks much impressive than the previous designs but still not very good, other than the slow reaction I think the reading area is not big enough it is not a pocket device so should be bigger in size so one does not need to turn pages a lot.

The Sony eBook reader is great. I bought mine just after Christmas and have over 1000 books on my sd card. You can read pdf documents and download books from Sony’s ebook store. I have a review and pictures at my site http://www.vendingmatic.info I had to get a Sony as Amazon does not sell the Kindle in Canada.

Got something to say? Go for it!
