Facebooks comments replacing WordPress comments soon?
With Facebook’s new commenting widget you can put comments box on any page and allow people to comment using their facebook login. Great thing is that, the comments will appear on their own profiles just like any other notification message in the Facebook.
Do you know what that means to you as a blogger? It means a great opportunity to promote your blog on the facebook for free. Imagine 20 people commented on your blog and these 20 comments appeared on their own facebook profile and seen by their network of friends. E.g “Adam commented on AdesBlog saying….” Obviously there will be people who click on the link and come to your blog.
Mmhh… I think I have to sit and figure out how to replace my wordpress comments with this facebook comments widget. If you find a way how to do it, do let me know. Because it needs to correspond to every post on your blog accordingly. I am not sure if that is possible. It would be better if facebook team could come up with wp plugin for replacing wp comments.
The widget does support comments from people who do not have facebook accounts. So that’s great too. It means you won’t lose anything.
Here is a video by facebook engineers on how to setup this comments widget on your site, (might be little techie for beginners):
For more info you can go to here, developer wiki or forums.

Well, that’s nice except that you hand over, for free, some of your most valuable content (your readers’ comments) to Facebook.
As for me : thanks, but no thanks.

I agree, having facebook comments appearing on a blog post would be very powerful. It would make your blog look very vibrant and encourage other people to join to conversation.

@Jérôme, it’s a matter of technicality only, since you will still show the comments on your blog and have full access to your comments. It’s just that you will be using facebook’s database to store your comments instead of your own. And that comes with an advantage that you can promote your blog on facebook network.
For me, I don’t see any problem here, what giving away?

This will definitely help alleviate a lot of comment spam, and give people the opportunity to have their say. However I still think some comments are best left incognito!

Hmmmm, my previous comment has disappeared and my URL link in the TC sidebar is wrong. Think I made o boo-boo somewhere, or somebody is fooling around here….please help Ades!

@Jacq, I see that all comments are from your email and same IP, so I think they are all yours but you must have made a mistake somewhere. I see one of your URL is http://www.seotools.co.za/pages/seo-tips/ which is giving 404 error. Is it the wrong URL?

If i will find some thing interesting it in, than will surely add it, because there are so many widgets available.

“you will be using facebook’s database to store your comments”- does this mean if face book is down my comments will not be accessible? the same goes to if facebook is blocked, do not laugh, it happens here in China, technorati is not accessible for weeks now.
By Ades on Feb 26, 2009
Technically if facebook db is down your comments would be down too. Who knows maybe they keep their databases in IPs that are not blocked by China. You should test it out on a demo page on your blog/website.

I am amazed at how the Web 2.0 concept continues to expand by connecting websites to each other, such as Facebook now connecting with individual blogs across the net. How much more interconnected will websites be 3-5 years from now?

That sounds fantastic. Obviously this would generate a lot of awareness for your website and would hopefully attract new readers! An excellent idea

It can be a way to increase traffic but i don’t think those numbers will transfer into a good number of back links.
