Opera 10 (alpha) - 30% faster

Posted in » Software - by Ades on December 6th, 2008

Opera, my previous favorite web browser (before the advent of firefox) has released Opera 10 (alpha) version. It’s reportedly 30% faster than the current 9.62 version. It uses presto 2.2 rendering engine which makes it faster and more secure.

People behind opera has been doing some great updates lately. I think I might just shift back to Opera soon. It already supports lots of add-ons, but the most important feature that I missed the most is mouse gestures. Opera 10 makes it easy to update it too, it automatically updates the browser to the latest updates seamlessly - install once, and it keeps itself up to date. Wanna try? You should!

Currently I am still using Firefox, but I might shift to Opera back. I agree one of the advantages of firefox is that it has so many great plugins.

I tried Opera on the Mac recently. It wasn’t bad, but in a day when websites are optimized for FireFox and IE, a few sites may look a little strange in Opera. Also, the plugins available for FireFox give it a big edge over any other browser, in my opinion.

I am a Firefox junkie, especially with their web developer and SEO extentions. The problem I’ve with Firefox is that it is getting more and more resource intensive, and my poor ageing laptop is battling with it sometimes.

Despite the fact that I don’t recommend Opera, it’s great to have Opera on the market. More browsers mean more innovation and ideas, which help help the browser market continue to improve and evolve at a faster pace.
