flagfox.pngThis firefox plugin displays a country flag in the URL field for a given website, depicting the location of the current website’s server. It also provides quick access to detailed location and webserver information (see screenshot).

Besides being a neat firefox plugin, you could use this tool to identify some phishing sites as well. For example, if you access www.paypal.com and see some unknown flag for the server, you better don’t login on that website!

Excellent idea. I would love to see how many sites are in India.

In addition to the reasons you stated, this plugin would be great for allowing you to see if someone’s blog really is in the country they say—instead of someone pretending to be in a country just to sell stuff.

This is intriguing. But I don’t know how reliable such a plugin would be. A person’s site could easily be hosted in a different country from their base of operations. The server being in a certain country doesn’t really tell you much.

This plugin is addictive. It’s really fun to see where blogs are located. It’s not always accurate, since the plugin can only see where the server is located, but it’s still cool.
