updown.png UpDown.com is a social network for virtual investing that has more than 40,000 members. It provides members with virtual portfolios and $1,000,000 in virtual money to invest. UpDown.com provides a free platform for people to improve their skills through collaboration, competition and aggregated wisdom. In the process, UpDown allows members to earn real money with zero risk of financial loss.

UpDown.com members earn money whenever their virtual portfolios outperform the S&P 500. The higher the margin that their portfolios beat the S&P 500, the more money they earn each month.

When I asked how much a person can earn from UpDown.com, Liz Bradley (Director of Public Relations) said that:

The total amount that individual members can earn is unlimited, but the average payouts really depend on the community’s overall performance. Currently, UpDown.com’s total monthly payments average about $10,000 over the community, and the site expects that monthly payout average to grow significantly as its membership continues to expand. The site’s top earner has made over $3,000 in a few months.

Not bad huh? You get paid for improving your financial skills… it will be and advantage if you have finance background. I have been trying to persuade my wife to give it a try, because she has bachelor’s and master’s degree in finance. But so far no avail :( She is too busy with our two sons (one 2.5 years old, another is only 27 days old). I guess I just have to wait until my son grows up a little.

Its FREE, its FUN, its FINANCIAL…not very often that those three words are mentioned in unison, must say! A certain measure of success is guaranteed if one takes just this punch-line into consideration, so am interested to see whether UpDown.com goes up…..or down….

The problem is that it is very addictive if you are not self disciplined. While someone who spends a great deal of time on the site can indeed make some money, it is more for people with little else to do for making a living.

I just mentioned on another post that I have time management issues, now this is just drawing me in. I have no financial training etc but it looks good.

i always think there is some element of gambling in playing the stock market so i steer clear of it. But this site sounds really interesting: virtual trading where they give you virtual money and where you cant actually lose any real money.

Sorry hit submit before i finished: if you can have the chance to actually make money as well that is a great plus. A bit like that second life business where they deal in Lindens.

UpDown.com is a very good way of making money without investing.

Ok, this sounds like a very interesting idea. I wonder if you can actually learn something about investing or if it’s more of a game.

Great post, thanks! Any platform that provides virtual trading can be advantageous for prospective or active traders/investors — But to create an opportunity to reap the benefits monitarily, even in modest ammounts, I think is proactive.
