Run your own .edu blog for $50/month
We all know that having a backlink from .edu domain names will increase your search engine result position (SERP) and possible your pagerank too. Because search engines assume that since educational websites are linking to you, your site must be of good value.
For this reason, some people are taking advantage, especially those who are the webmaster of .edu websites. Here is one such site www.pi.edu. PI.Edu is offering a service where you can create your own .edu based blog on their (edu based) domain name. Of course it’s not free, they are charging $50 a month for this.
I am not sure how much people charge for text-links on edu sites. But if you think you can startup a blog and make a popular on edu domain name. I am sure you can make a lot of money with it.
As for me, I barely have enough time to blog on this own blog, I wouldn’t be able to manage a new blog. What’s your thoughts on this?

Its a very good tactic for backlink but you have to have knowledge to do .edu site and its quit costly….

I think search engines will exclude this site from its rank database.

I think that if you will have a good blog with some great stuff on it, the tld of the blog will not be important.

Open prostitution like this will inevitably end up on the blogs….hahahah….and believe you me there are loads of search engineers like Matt Cutts from Google that keep their fingers on the pulse….they’ll manually devalue the link juice from thatr specific .edu domain.
So you might have a bit of short term gain at a very high price. Rather concentrate on quality content that eill establish you as an authority.

I wonder if they offer e-mail address too.

By stretching a point I suppose one could call a blog like this as an educational one, though I personally would not like to do so. Perhaps it is my conditioning or value system or whatever, but such a practice will leave a bad taste in my mouth, though it may well be legal.

Half of the SEO “experts” out there seem to suggest that .edu backlinks are valuable, the other half say it is a fallacy.
Who is right?

There always seems to be someone selling links to .edu blogs that you can use. I bit once and out of 5 links I got 2 up and running and they were shut down within 3 days.
I think it has to be a tactical marketing decision with content ready to post and set it all up to auto update before the purchase goes ahead.
Do you get a sub domain for the above?

I don’t get caught up in the whole edu thing.

Mr. Big G is going to flex his muscle again. Just like he did on link selling.

That edu blog is completely worthless - just look at the number of inbound links and lack of Google page rank. Just having an EDU domain doesn’t mean the link is valuable. EDU domains have a lot of value in Google generally because the institutions they represent are credible and have lots of credible inbound links from other credible sources. Just having an EDU blog on a domain with little or no credible inbound links is a waste.

It’s a nice concept, but likely won’t work well for rankings. Google is just too smart for that kind of manipulation.
