Tip: Increase your blog’s chances to get Stumbled(Upon)

Remember the post that I wrote “How to redirect traffic that comes from certain URL to another“? If you have missed that post, it was a post about redirecting users to a certain page on your blog (or to other website altogether) that came from certain URL e.g stumbleupon.com

How you can increase your stumbles, that is - thumbs up’s with this? Well, the idea is simple.iliked.png Sometimes, if you are lucky some people will mention your blog in their stumbleupon blogs. Which means free traffic to your blog from StumbleUpon. It also works when your blog’s main URL gets stumbled, instead of the particular post that the user actually wanted to stumble.

Since your blog’s main page is always changing, you want the users from StumbleUpon to see your best content. Therefore, if you redirect the users that come from stumbleupon to your best article, your blog will have a better chance to get stumbled again.

Please note that when someone stumbles your particular post, it works just fine i.e it won’t be redirected to another page. Here is an example where Caroline stumbled one of my post. If you click on the post title, you will be taken to that post.

On the other hand, if you go here and click on the link that takes to the main URL of my blog. You will see that instead of going to AdesBlog dot com you will be taken to this article.

So if you like the idea, you can see the steps here on how to set it up on your blog.

P.S I know that some of you are not familiar with .htaccess. I will write an introductory article on .htaccess soon, so stay tuned.

    First one to comment.. Yay!:D

I think the best way to get stumbled is writing good and high quality content. For example, one of my posts here :-
    http://www.blogohblog.com/top-10-javascripts-for-image-manipulation/

got stumbled away..so much .. that it got 1,00,000 visits in a day.

So, good and unique content is the key I think.

I’ve had a similar problem where any links to a Blogger blog goes to the latest post, not the article itself. Very frustrating.

Jai, how many visits is that?

Yes I shared the same frustration.

Do like the contents of the blog much.

I want to try it on my blog.

I used to get a lot of SU traffic; but it’s declining as a correlative function of time.

Good idea. But I think its a little sneaky. Or is it? I’m not really sure. I’ll hold off for a while. Add your post to bookmarks just in case I decide to do it later.

    Hi Ades

Yeah it makes sense, thanks for that. I think the key to increase your blog’s chances is to write great posts and more importantly to get involved with the bloggers as they are your customers. And customers tell their friends, the internet. Like this blog I have added it to my favourites “I like it” (Stumble) on more then 1 occasion.

Those sites that impress me are going to be shared with others.

    Well done Ades

Great post as usual Ades, noted.

Bloggers are looking for friends, people that have something to say that makes sense.

I have given this blog the “thumbs up” on multiple different posts as a way of telling the world come to this website, the articles are great, and so is the service.

Thus I believe that, like any business, give a good product backed by great service and the people (customers) will come and they will spread the word.
