SEOlogs has a tool called Reverse IP DNS Domain Check Tool. This tool allows you to enter your domain name and find how many other sites are hosted on the same server as yours.
Checking my own domain (adesblog.com) I found that there are 727 other sites hosted on the same server! (no wonder my blog is so slow). Many of the sites might be not functional, but come on! 727 sites on one server? goDaddy must be kidding. When I complained about the slow connection to the server, goDaddy said that there was no problem on their side. I think 727 sites on one server is a huge problem!
How many other sites share the same IP with your blog?

This tool doesn’t work very well, it says theres only 1 website on one of my domains when there should be 15!
Abdalla, I am not sure how accurate the tool is. Anyone knows of any other similar tool? We can compare the results.
213 here.
I don’t think this tool is very accurate…727 seems waaaay to high. Also, that IP could be hosting that many websites, but that doesn’t mean that those site are on the same machine. Perhaps that is the IP of a load balancer.
JJMelo, you are most probably right. Is there any way to bypass the load balancer and check the actual server, and how many sites hosted on the actual server? anybody?
Maybe Kamchy can enlighten us?
Well, I’ve no idea how accurate it might be either, however, just for fun I tried entering the domain of my personal site. It says there are 665 sites on the same server as me (not goDaddy). Actually, I own 5 other domains that it lists correctly, so this may be normal. :)
731 for me and i am hosted by the largest french webhost (OVH.com)
(and +1 JJMelo)
I think we have a few hundred sites on our server as well. I noticed your blog was a little slow the last few times I’ve tried commenting but hadn’t attributed the slowness to godaddy.
i’ve heard a few people complain about the number of sites they run on servers. I guess something has to pay for their Superbowl commercials.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_address_translation
http://whois.domaintools.com/adesblog.com shows over 2 thousands sites. Actually I guess a decent quad core machine with 6GB RAM can handle that amount of websites, but the problem begins when the websites start generating high traffic. Since they are all in one physical network cable it can be slower then it used to be. Other then that, if the websites do not generate much traffic/load then its ok. IMHO!
It is normal for a web hosting company to host more than 1,000 sites simultaneously.
Taking Exabytes for an example, their server host more than 1,000 sites with a 4 quad core cpu and 4Gb of Ram. So far no problem with the issue of slow loading unless there are some websites being leech or hotlinking or being attack by any mean especially flood sync attack.
Ades, you might want to check your server either they enabled the named service or not? I experienced this when first moved to my own dedicated. The nameserver service did not on and this will cause my sites response after 20seconds. What I read, WordPress will call the command to check the nameserver each time they load.
I had also bought one package from bluefur which I gave it to my friend to host his site. The speed and services can be said the best so far.
If like your site Ades, you might one to transfer to a better server or might consider to put all your site in one dedicated or semi dedicated (5 sites in one server).
Consider Theplanet.com as one of your choice is good as Planet have the fastest network whereabout in Texas, a military network.
Good luck Ades and thanx for making me the winner of the contest
Mine is 724. That’s pretty high and some of those websites are porn sites! Oh no… no wonder sometimes my site is crawling.
i think this tool has some bug.
i tested out for my website and it showed 6 websites listed on that IP and my website name wasn’t there, then i gave it another try by some other websites names and that website name was included in the list.
I’m sure this site isn’t working right. I put in 4 of my addon domains and all of them come back with the same IP, but 3 of them show 0 sites hosted and the fourth shows only 67 sites. Oh well, it’s fun to look at, but even if it did show 1000+ sites there isn’t much to do about it. I certainly don’t make enough money to justify dedicated hosting :(
Don’t think it’s reliable… my site has zero sites hosted! Yes, zero!

Overcrowded server is a slow server. I used similar tool to check who is hogging the bandwidth on my company’s website, I realized that several international coperates are sharing it.
It is usually slow at night(daytime in the USA). I figure that’s one way to optimize the server capacity and bring more profits.
Other things I pay close attention is the disk space left and the DB status. I believe they do affect the surfing speed.
I don’t know how accurate it is but it shows me with 704 other sites. Then I ran a different domain I have and it showed 684 then I tried a third and it was 685.
I used the ip ….
http://whois.webhosting.info/64.202.163.156
it shows that there is more than 2k.
but adesblog is not inside that list…weird
I tried but it seems it isn’t working as expected here.Someone should come to my aid please!!!!
That seems overly excessive but does not look uncommon. I guess it might be time to consider a move?
ades, if you are interested to big host with 100mb bandwitch contact me.
