Microsoft wants to buy Yahoo for $44.6 billion

REDMOND, Wash. - Microsoft has pounced on slumping Internet icon Yahoo with an unsolicited takeover offer of $44.6 billion, seeking to join forces against Google in what would be the biggest Internet deal since the Time Warner-AOL merger in 2001.
Yahoo repeatedly has rebuffed Microsoft’s advances in the past but in a statement Friday the company said it will “carefully and promptly†study the bid. full story
What do you think about the above news? Microsoft’s acquisition of Yahoo, do you think it will happen? I think it will, because Yahoo has been struggling all these while. Under the reign of Terry Semel, Yahoo lost its glory. And I do not see Jerry Yang doing anything special to turn Yahoo around. So I think Microsoft’s offer is like a just-in-time rescue for Yahoo.
If it happens, do you think new Microsoft (+Yahoo) can beat the big-G? I think very little will change, because Google is too competitive for any company at the moment. It’s just impossible to bring Google down at the moment.

Whoa there! Google’s BOD has not accepted the offer yet. If they do not, there is likely to be an unfriendly take over battle, messy all around. If MS does take over, in the short term nothing is likely to change, but in the long term, the web world will benefit with two super giants battling out for the market share with increased service levels and lower prices. A lot of people are out there waiting for someone big enough to take on Google who has antagonized a lot of bloggers.

Hopefully this happens. Google needs some real competition.

I think that is wild! Personally, i hope yahoo get back on top quickly because yahoo is pretty much more friendly based than google IMO. I regularly search on yahoo…not to say google is bad. There’s something about the big Y! i like alot.

Following my Feb 3 comment: Is Ballmer really mean business? This is expected move from Y! Never accept the first offer. I think we can see more drama this month.
