WP Plugin: Make your blog’s search strings SEO friendly
Nice Search is a WP plugin that makes your blog search “SEO friendly”.
It’s in quotes because normally search results won’t get indexed by search engines, because they are dynamic. Unless of course you store them as a static page in a specific folder in your blog.
But the plugin is still very useful, it makes your search strings “nicer” as the name of the plugin says. As you can see from the screenshot, it turns the normal wordpress search string into /search/keyword format, which is a lot more readable.

Dynamic urls *will* get indexed by the search engines. Just do a bit of searching and you’ll see plenty of dymanic urls.
This used to be a problem but no longer is a problem.

I did something like this ages ago on Sciencetext.com that involved nothing more than an .htaccess hack rather than installing another Wordpress plugin (maybe the plugin just hacks .htaccess on the fly anyway. But, all you need to do is add the line
RewriteRule ^search/(.+)?$ /index.php?s=$1 [QSA,L]
to .htaccess. I had just scheduled a post on this very subject when your plugin post appeared!

This is one of those plughins which can help a little, but will not make that much of a difference in most cases. Installing them never hurts, however, since it only takes up a few minutes of your time.

David, thanks, that’s good to know.
I think plugin version is a safer method compared to editing .htaccess file for most users.
