Pligg – make your own Digg style site

I am sure many of you already know about pligg. But for those who do not know, it’s an open source content management system that allows you to set up your own Digg style website (e.g DesignFloat).

You can see the list of sites that were developed with pligg at http://pliggsites.com. Currently there are 234 pligg sites in the directory.

Have you used pligg? If yes what is your website?

Yes. I’ve just started using it at JapanSoc.com. It’s not as easy to set up as WordPress, but not too difficult either. The biggest problem is the number of small bugs I keep finding. Pligg itself is still in beta, but that hasn’t stopped the guys at BloggingZoom.com. They’ve built a pretty strong community of bloggers on their Pligg site.

Hey Nick, nice website you have there! Really like the design and the way you have organized it.

  3. Great. I am in search of this type of website from last few days. Thanks for the sharing.

I agree with Nick.. the set up is a little tricky compared to what I’m used to but I think its starting to come together. My plan? An education oriented 2.0 at http://scholarlinks.net

Great thing about the internet, if you can’t find what you’re looking for you can just build it yourself! So far so good but its barely getting started

Thanks Ades. JapanSoc is really coming together now. John, I was making so many small fixes for the first couple of months, but now I can pretty much sit back and watch the community grow. It’s a great feeling. Good luck with Scholar Links!

  6. I’ve built a few sites with Pligg. I agree that the software has a lot of small bugs, the templating system is sort of hard to manage, and the default template has poorly-written HTML and CSS. On the brighter side, the software is open source and you’re free to change the code and develop your own social news site with *relatively* little work. You can see an excellent example of this at http://www.entirelyopensource.com, a new social news site, software directory, and feed aggregating service dedicated entirely to open source software.

  7. Here’s another pligg site

    http://techdoggy.com

TechDoggy is a technology social bookmarking site for latest news and reviews on technology products and services such as gadgets, gizmos, camera, cell phone, GPS, VoIP and future technologies.

Another digg style site is DipLinks.com

  9. Hey Jim, Do you know if DipLinks.com uses pligg ?

  10. James says:

    @Logo Designer

Nope. Diplinks.com is our company’s website and we built it using Asp.Net from scratch to have more control over each module. Though we couldn’t continue it any further as we got busy in our other priority issues. Anyways, thanks for your comment.

  11. Add url Bing says:

Can I submit my pligg site directly to bing etc?

Got something to say? Go for it!
