Post Frequency, Case Study on 5 Blogs – part 2

In part-1, I have discussed how the blogs, in terms of posting frequency, were slowing down lately. I have also analyzed ProBlogger.net’s post frequency for the last two months. In ProBlogger’s case, it was concluded that posting frequency was indeed decreasing.

Surprisingly, Darren himself posted an interesting comment to my post regarding his blog post frequency for the past 12 months. He thinks that the current decline in post numbers for the past 2 months is due to a normal phenomenon, rather than a major trend in the blogosphere.

Indeed, from the graph that he has provided for his blog (see left), we can see that his post frequency does vary from month to month. And the last two months are no different. They actually look quite normal (yellow) when we compare them against the previous months and when we look to the graph’s previous trends. However, it also proves right, that the post frequency for the last two months indeed decreased. Which was the original intent of this post – to find out if the blogs were posting less (i.e posting frequency was decreasing) for the past two months.

Anyway, let’s continue with the analysis of the remaining four blogs. I am sure findings will be interesting for many readers.

JohnChow dot com

Next blog is, none other than JohnChow.com. After Darren provided a graph for his blog on the number of blog posts for the past 12 months. I decided to do the same for JohnChow dot com.

This larger statistics that spans for 11 months of 2007 should give better representation of this case study, compared to only two months’ data that I previously intended to consider.

When we look at this eleven months data, we can clearly see that in JohnChow’s case, it’s very clear that the number of posts are decreasing in a constant manner.

Some of the decrease can be attributed to his previous “free backlink contest” posts, that he no longer hosts now. He used to post those posts very frequently, at least one in 2-3 days. He also has total of 133 Paid Reviews, out of which 128 is done during 2007. I don’t have the data on paid reviews on month-to-month basis. However, I think he used to do a lot of paid reviews previously, before he raised the price to $400 per review. So, that could attribute to the decrease in number of posts too.

Basically, he has more paid reviews than most of his monthly total posts. In other words, out of 12 months one month is dedicated for paid reviews only.

Finally, the decrease in the number of posts might be because JohnChow has now established some sort of authority in the Make Money Online field. As I discussed in my post about blog-post-frequency, people who are authority in particular field will tend to post lesser.

Average Post Per Day

Based on the number of posts for the last two months, average number of posts for JohnChow dot com is 2.49 posts a day.

Day of the Week

On weekdays John posts almost the same number of posts, but mondays are slightly higher than the rest of the weekdays. It’s 2.75 posts for mondays.

During weekends, he posts the least on saturdays – average number of posts on saturdays on JohnChow dot com is 2 posts exactly, based on the latest two months’ data from Oct 1st to Nov 22nd, 2007.

Conclusion

From the above analysis we can conclude that the post frequency on JohnChow dot com is constantly decreasing. As the authority of John increases in the make money online field, I expect the post frequency to decrease further. Most probably, the articles will also decrease in length and become shorter like Shoemoney.com and Problogger.net.

Tomorrow, I will talk about the remaining three blog findings, including my own blog. So, stay tuned! Didn’t want to overwhelm you by discussing all the blog findings in one post.
