First, Google went for the longest delay in PageRank update. And then it came out and started slashing eveybody’s PageRanks left and right. Luckily AdesBlog was spared for the first one… but it was not to last long…

I had enjoyed my PR7 for 1 year and 20 days exactly ;) Yes I am speaking in the past tense, because today I noticed that the Google servers are being updated with a new PageRank for my blog, and it’s not a good news. My new PR is 5.

Other sites which had PR7…

Luckily my new PR is not PR4. Even Darren’s blog was not spared, his problogger.net went from PR6 to PR4. Here is a list of more sites who lost their PRs.

Possible reasons for the downgrade

I had anticipated that soon or later Google will catch up with my blog’s PR. Because, I was selling text links on my blog openly. I really think that it was because of this - selling links, my PR was lowered. My other site AdesHost.com which does not have paid links on it, still has a strong PR6.

Second but less probable reason is my unfortunate link exchange with JohnChow (he got another downgrade this time, now he has PR4). It’s possible that by exchanging links with such a popular blogger like JC, my blog might have been exposed to Matt Cutts of Google… But as I said, that’s less probable.

Downgrade effects and my future plans

At the moment PageRank is a strong determinant for an ad price (but might not be in the future), and therefore my ad prices, the ones from Text-Link-Ads will probably decrease. However my own prices won’t be changing, at least for the time being.

Also, I see that the traffic from Google to my blog has not been affected. But it’s too early to say… let’s wait at least one or two weeks and see if lesser PR will affect the traffic. If it doesn’t then having PR5 won’t really matter.

At the moment, my mood is not too bad, maybe it’s because I was ready to accept it… As for my blogging, I will still be doing what I do everyday, that is providing you with quality posts. So you can expect no change from AdesBlog, posting frequency and quality of the posts will still stay the same.

How is your PageRank?

Has your blog been affected with the latest downgrade? If yes, will it affect you and your blogging experience after this? Why do you think Google is behaving in such manner?

We’ve skidded from a 7 down to a 5 over the past year.

    **sigh**

But if everyone is getting hit, who cares? It just makes a new scale where 5 is the new 7 :D

  2. By chipseo on Oct 25, 2007

Wow, that is incredible. Without any official notice from Google or anything close to it perhaps they are really going to update or upgrade the whole system soon and are readjusting everyone for the new system… ahhhh, sorry, just vamping there, I know it really stinks.

Like you said, your posts are going to change, so in the end Google could just be devaluing itself by making the page rank irrelevant. Scott

    whydowork, 5 is the new 7, huh?… i like that ;)

Scott, i really think Google wants to devalue its PR. They have created their own headache…

Don’t worry Ades since your RSS is increasing.
Like JC - while his blog is dropped but the price for ads is still the same.
It will not effect your popularity.
Still no change for my little xbrain dot biz

Mine went from 3 to 2. This may effect my paid posting requirements. But since everyone is affected, then I guess there will be no more discrimination among people like us? Don’t know lah.

    Hello,

First of all you and others refer to this as a PR update. NO this is NOT an update, you and the others have been penalized manually. This is a huge difference. If you keep up with your poor methods you may receive even a stronger penality, PR0, etc. especially if you write that you think this was an update. The update is still a few weeks away, Matt Cutts of Google has stated this.

If you want to read a good history of all of this please read:

    http://gototom2.blogspot.com/2006/09/80-of-webmasters-are-wrong-about-seo.html

If you need help to have this penality removed you will need to change your ways and beg Google. We have helped many people have a penality removed in the past, this is not easy. You have to know how to do it, you do not even understand what has happened to you.

Again you have a manual penality not a Google PR update. If you want to help your readers you should state this as a fact and refer them to this article to read and learn.

Good luck, as I think you will need it.

Tom, I perfectly know that I have been penalized. And I have no interest in removing my text links and stop my paid reviews. Also to insert no follow tags to all the outgoing links… So I guess Google can forget about my begging them. And thanks for your offer about helping to remove this penalty, I won’t need it.

If you check your PR on multiple data centers you will have a PR 7 on some, but how long will that last?

Might be worht checking this out: http://www.joostdevalk.nl/i-requested-reconsideration-and-got-my-pagerank-back/

I’m glad blogs have been hit, as you can see from the most of the posts around, most people are more worried about money than anything else…paying for links etc is a poor way to promote yourself and shows most just blog for money. If you have a truly successful blog with unique and interesting content which you you write about things that interest you without thinking about how much £££ your making chances are your be fine, the crowds will still come in the normal way.

Pagerank has always been irrelevant, all that matters is your content and what your website is worth to yourself. If a blog is at the top the serps for a reason it should be because of content not who there linked too.

    Good luck.

My blog I started less than two months ago got PR3. I didn’t expect it.

I agree with mark but i am addicted to generating links its a bad habit to get out of. Especially when you read so much about getting links. Heck good example here, i put my website address in this comment with my website title. Where as Mark just put his name silly point to make but i understand what hes saying about PR is not always important. I have a PR of 3 on one of my websites it went from nothing to 3 in about 1 month. My visits and hits didn’t really increase.
