Guide: How to withdraw your AdSense earnings through WesternUnion.

Posted in » Google, Make Money, News - by Ades on September 30th, 2007

Malaysians (and maybe other countries too), another good news for you. Now you can get paid through WesternUnion for your Google AdSense earnings. What does that mean? That means, when Google releases the payments you can get your payments immediately, no need to wait for 10 days for your checks to arrive. And another 30 days for them to be cleared anymore.

In Malaysia, WesternUnion services are available at most of the CIMB Bank branches and in some Pos Malaysia branches (here is the list of branches with WU).

Here is how you set your payment options, go to:

My Account > Account Settings > Payment Details [edit]

After you click [edit] you will be displayed the following screen. On this page, choose Setup WesternUnion Quick Cash option, as shown below.

How much they charge for this?

It’s FREE.

Will the local bank charge anything?

No, they won’t.

What are the steps for getting paid with WU?

After you have chosen, Western Union as the option for your payment. At the end of the month, you will be given MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number). MTCN is a 10 digit number that you need to show when you are picking up your payment from CIMB Bank. You will also need to bring your IC or Passport, and of course you need to know how much money you are withdrawing. Finally, you need to know Google Address.

Again, you need to have these for picking up your payment:

  • MTCN
  • IC or Passport
  • Amount to be received
  • Sender’s Address (it’s Google here)

Google Address:
Google Inc.
1600 Amphitheatre Parkway
Mountain View, CA 94043
USA

Can you withdraw from any CIMB Branch?

Yes you can, as long as you are inside the territory of Malaysia, you can withdraw from any branch of CIMB or Post Office (only some post offices have this, so please check).

Where to get your MTCN?

In the beginning Google used to send it through email. But now it does not. So don’t wait for the email. Just make sure to login to your AdSense account at the end of the month. Go to My Account > Payments History page as shown below.

Then click on the payment details. Make sure you click on the correct month:

Then you will be displayed your payment details like this:

So, good luck! By the way, your money will be available for 30 days in WU system. After which, if you do not withdraw it will be credited back to your Google AdSense account.

Tip: For those who have never used WesternUnion, when you go to bank, ask for WesternUnion and fill up the yellow form (to receive) and not the green one (to send). Sender will be, First Name: Google Inc. Last name: empty

I believe there will be an official PR from Google about this shortly. Update: they did check here.

I had heard and read a lot about Western Union as an option for payment of Adsense but not much details. Nothing too at Adsense’s Blog. I guess they are not too eager because their money will flow out quicker as compared to cheque payment by ordinary post which will take about 6 weeks for a check to be cleared (and the risk of the cheque envelope being chewed by dogs).
You had given the complete picture and taken up the option.
Since I would never be able to thank you enough, I will visit your blog regularly.

can we withdraw the money at any branch of CIMB banks? As i know that we can only deposit the check at the bank where we open our saving account.

  9. By Ainuddin Mohamad on Oct 4, 2007

I don’t think we can withdraw the money from any CIMB branch since Adsense would identify/locate the nearest branch to your address. I’m in Kajang, so I guess I can only withdraw it from its Kajang branch. I hope it would not mistaken it for Kluang or Klang.

Western Union is different from cheque. You won’t be getting any hardcopy details. Instead, you’ll be getting your MTCN. You don’t have to worry about location. You can receive the money from any agents, provided that you can proof who you are. Name of receiver, MTCN, address of sender must match.

I’ve received funds through Western Union previously. Make sure recipient address is the same as the one u have in Adsense too =)
    Hope this help..

Normally the MTCN 10 Digital number will be send via post or other method. let say using post, this mean we still need to wait for two week to receive the MTCN number. The only benefit is shorter the time periods on the check clearances and waived the services charges.

I was one of the Malaysia beta testers and I have been receiving payments via Western Union since October 2006. If anybody is interested, you can find my opinion and experience here:

Jack, yes you can withdraw from any branch, let’s say, if you stay in Melacca you can still withdraw in KL.

KM, you can see your MTCN by logging in to your AdSense account and going to payments page. Google won’t send MTCN through mail.

Today, i try to withdraw the adsense earning from CIMB bank. However, CIMB bank reject my payment due to Private sector company payment to personal.
They said western union only for personal to personal.

Any idea about this issues ?

    Ades
How you receive western union payment via personal or company registration name

  25. By Ades on Jan 29, 2008

km, it shouldn’t be like that. just go to other branch of CIMB or go to Pos Malaysia, I am sure you will be able to withdraw without any problem. I didn’t have a single problem since Google started beta testing this WU payment (over a year).

But I must say, smaller branches have less experience with WU.

What if there is no mtcn?

  33. By Ades on Oct 2, 2008

If no MTCN, Wesern Union might not release the money to you. Unless of course it has some other security measures, like secret question etc.

  34. By Eligio on Oct 3, 2008

MTCN is important, here in the philippines We have a membership card for western union user, incase you forgot your mtcn you can still get the money by giving the sender name, address and the amount of expected money transfer. Also you must provide 2 valid Id’s with picture :). This happen to me once, but if you want a faster transaction provide the MTCN. :D

This is good that Google is allowing Western Union payments. This will allow people outside of the USA who do not have access to other payment methods to collect their AdSense earnings.

  37. By jang jin on Jan 18, 2009

Hi ades, I think I might have a problem. My payee name doesn’t seem to match because the surname and last name is in reverse. I tried to change the name because seems that now, they no longer allow email options. I need to close the account before opening a new one. How should I go about doing this because if I close the account, does that mean I will lose all the money? Please help.

  38. By Ades on Jan 19, 2009

@jang jin, please contact google support about it. if you close the account you might lose your funds, so it’s better to talk to them first.

  39. By Lorna on Jan 27, 2009

Ades, I’ve been scratching my head trying to figure out the Western Union option, but all I got was 2 options, one for Check Standard Delivery and another for Check Express Delivery.

I’m really bummed :( I received my first AdSense paycheck earlier this month, and I have to wait another month for it to clear.

Do you know of any way for me to go about solving this?

I’ll be posting about this in my blog, so you can have a look at my AdSense screen shot. Thanks anyway for this helpful post.

  40. By Ades on Jan 28, 2009

@Lorna, I believe you are malaysian? If that is the case then it’s strange. Because WU is available to all malaysians, at least that’s what they (google) announced.
