SiteVista redesigned, becomes litmusapp.com

SiteVista – website testing service for various browser compatibility has been redesigned and got a new name – Litmus. And can be found at http://litmusapp.com now.

I am not sure if Microsoft has squeezed them to drop the Vista name from their site and URL.

With a new launch, they are offering some good promotion “Become a Litmus patron“, patrons get:

* Unlimited web page testing for two years
* Unlimited email testing for two years
* Full access to every Litmus feature now and in the future
* Priority email support
* Access to private discussion list with the other 74 package customers
* “Golden ticket” to give to a friend for a free, unlimited-testing three month Litmus account
* Numbered badge you can display on your web site
* First-look beta access to all forthcoming features

Prices for the promotion:

- Single user patron account – €325 with 25 active tests
- 10 user patron account just €995 with unlimited active tests

Only 75 patron accounts are being offered, and as of now only 58 accounts is remaining. So if you want to become a patron, you should act now. http://litmusapp.com/promotion

This is a good offer for a web design companies, but not necessarily for freelance web designers.

I guess the poor performance of Vista at its initial launch prompted the boys from Redmond to go at it and think outside the box. And I honestly feel that this would also be good for web designers. Sponsored account, of course. Nice post, Ades! And I kid you not! I always come here at least 2x/week to keep myself up to date. Keep those interesting posts coming!

Brilliant idea, poor execution. Spread the word. Stay away, far, far away from LitmusApp.com, no better than the buggy SiteVista and a very poor substitute for the old fashioned way (email it to your own test clients). Still no Macintosh clients, and only 3 out of 7 tests actually worked for us on a pre-tested HTML email (and then there were problems with each of the 3 results). Mileage with LitmusApps HTML tests may vary, we didn’t stick around long enough to test those based on the poor email performance. Refund requested (for a second time – you’d think we’d have learned about this snake oil the first time). Unbelievable.

Ades – Thanks for the write up. We weren’t approached by MS to change the name, but we were getting associated with Windows Vista to an extent (not necessarily a good association!), so we thought we’d re-brand. And because we’re testing emails as well as web sites, so wanted a more generic name.

Wayne – I’m really glad you like the concept, we’re very proud of the service. That said, I’m sorry you had a less than perfect experience. The overwhelming response has been positive. As you and I have discussed by email, it’s taken a week or so for everything to bed down. It’s a shame you couldn’t stay to see everything running smoothly.

  4. Litmus app is pretty damn cool. I mean, let’s check out the specs -> 1) Modern and edge case browser testing. -> 2) Native AND Web Based email testing. -> 3) Responsive support. -> 4) A freakin API! -> 5) “Open.” That said, it’s still not perfect, has it’s share of flaws. Paul has personally helped me numerous times, and fixed the problem in every occasion. First class.

Got something to say? Go for it!
