Well that seems to be the case for JohnChow.com. After he was banned from Google for his linkback promotion, he had discontinued his contest. I am wondering if he was doing all these just for Google? How about Yahoo or Technorati?

He still ranks No.8 for “Make Money Online” keywords on Yahoo. If he does not do something, I believe he will slip to secondary pages in coming weeks. Because most of the bloggers were linking to him with those keywords due to his backlink contest. Now that his contest is over, no blogger (less bloggers) will be linking with those exact keywords, thus his blog rating for those keywords will decline over time. Because Search Engines look at the current search trends, current linking trends, and anchor texts of those links to display the latest results.

I am not sure if he has been banned from MSN Live too, because his blog is not to be found on MSN for the same keywords. Or does MSN use Google Results as the source?

I thought he will have nothing to loose after he is dropped from Google, I thought the contest will be still on… I guess he does not want to be totally banned from Google. Because at the moment at least his blog comes up when you search for his name “John Chow”. Your thoughts on this…? Maybe John Chow himself can enlighten us?

It’s true that he has stopped the Contest for now. I did email him a 4 weeks ago and I was in batch 94, well after he had stopped. He may decide to span the batch every few weeks.

The worst is that I had made my review on May 3. The longest that I had seen was a month or so before being included in a batch. :( I wanted to see the JC effect on my blog.

Maybe I will be included before the PR update of October, November. He may decide to start again after the next PR update(August) and analyze the effect of the ban on his PR.

It would be nice to get answer from the source. ;)

Too bad, I was just thinking to write about JC.

If you look at search engine share market you will see Google is holding the most of it (all SEO and PPC marketers are well aware of that). This is a clear indication that if you get banned by Google for any reason, you will definitely loss revenue. Now fighting back against Google would be worse, wouldn’t it?

I’d like to think so. You need much more to fight back Google and not depend on their engine for the revenue. Take your losses and start over (again).

    I’d like to think so.

Yeah, I had a pending JC backlink … probably at least 5 batches away from when he stopped.. too bad.. *=( I bet is rankings will fall dramatically in the coming weeks…but it won’t affect his revenue much, because he has good traffic flow either way. Hopefully he’ll break into the technorati top 100, and then he should be safe.

I guess he doesn’t follow his own advice…”blog for yourself and not for google”. Maybe he NEEDS them afterall. I was already included in a batch early on;) Still waiting for mine to show up on this blog for the adesclrpicker:)

As Lori said “He didn’t follow his own teachings” This is a perfect example of just relying on only one source for traffic. It is a lesson to every blogger.
