Flipping blogs, would you sell your blog?

Six months old CareerRamblings.com has been sold for $20,000. Wow! Probably the new owner does not want people to know, that the blog has been sold and changed the owner. Because the auction page at SitePoint had been taken down, and there has been no statement about the sale on CareerRamblings itself.

I believe the previous authors of the blog, started the blog with the intention of selling it off at one point. Because six months is a very short time for any project, and anyone who wants to take the project to next level, will at least work on it few years.

My question is, do you blog because you want to flip your blog in the future? Or do you blog, because you love blogging? Or maybe you have your other reasons? Please share your thoughts on this.

P.S. Kumiko has more info on the CareerRamblings’ sale.

    Hello,

I don’t see anything wrong in that selling. Just opposite. It just shows that blogging has value now more than ever. If I don’t complete my quest http://myhive.blog.com/1840804/ until January I will try to sell my blog also. If you’re here just because you love blogging, as you say, why don’t you remove all your adds?

    Best wishes.

Please don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against selling blogs. In fact, if the price is right I might sell some of my projects too.

Good luck with your quest! And try to stay positive, where is all these negative energy coming from?

I really can’t sell my personal site, because what is RobertaFerguson.com without Roberta? Nothing….

I’d never sell Earsucker.com either. I love that blog and I can write about whatever music I feel like.

  4. Ades says:

You are right Roberta, blogs with a personal name in domainname will loose its specialty, if it is sold to someone else. I don’t see myself selling this blog either, but I would not mind to sell my hosting site adeshost.com if the offer was good.

What? No, man you got me wrong, I didn’t mean anything negative, that’s just me opinion. I read your blog, It’s very good. Sorry for confusion.
    Cheers!

I blog because I love blogging at this point. If I should tire of it in the future, I will sell my site, but until then, I just want to have fun and grow a decent resource site.

I would say 7 months= 20k is a good number. The company who bought the website, they only bought the domain (thats their business and thats what my guess is). So, CareerRamblings can still have their content/blog in a different domain (unless they have an agreement with the buyer). This is all business.

Yes, i would sell my domain/blog too if i get a good ROI. But this does not mean i do not love blogging or i do not like my work or all my works are going in vain.

PS: I have to keep an eye on Sitepoint from now. ;)

    No problem MyHive…

  9. I just made a post on the worth of blogs.

For me, I only have one blog I could sell if wanted.

    Your blog, http://www.adesblog.com, is worth $91,455.48 ;)

  10. Well, my theme, is using the law of attraction to attract $1,000,000 by November 14, 2009…. Is it possible? sure. Likely? maybe not. Would I sell? Possibly if it brought me closer to that goal, but I’d find it as hard to sell my blog as it would be to sell a family home that you’ve lived in all your life. Blogging is very addictive, and I’ve put a lot of work into creating my blog, and building traffic. Right now, though being still a little poor I think I’d take $20,000, heck I might take $10,000 lol.. Money is a great motivator, and I could do a lot with that kind of money.

I understand the concept and also the possible attraction behind the idea of selling off blogs. Still history has always proven that there is always two sides to a concept. In my opinion this concept can easily spiral out of control and more and more of bloggers will just be in it for the money’s sake. In effect quality of content will suffer as on some conscious level the blogger will have the sell-out mentality instilled.
