weirdoux has an interesting post at his blog. He raises concern for probloggers and bloggers who are earning considerable amount of money from blogging, whether they have a backup plan if (God forbid) they die?

How about you? Do you have any such backup plans? This question did cross my mind before, but I didn’t really think about it seriously. Let alone come up with a plan. We all do that, aren’t we? We expect to live at least 60-70 years. We think it (early death) won’t happen to us. That’s the nature of a human being. But the fact is, death can come unexpected.

It would be interesting to know if Darren Rowse or JohnChow has any plans for that. Life insurance maybe? (covering the blog earnings).

Update: Darren notified me that, he had blogged about this here.

    Yeah, kinda scary.

Hmm, So in this case, do you write a will and pass your blog to your spouse?. Give her the passwords to all your accounts?.

Thats a good question. First of all i would not depend on online marketing 100% unless i came up with some revolutionary code like Google. Therefore, I will try to open a brick and mortar company and become a normal business man.

Then once i will pass away I will try to pass my business it to my next generation (if they are interested) or sell all my websites for quite a big amount of money and donate it to charity. How does that sound?

Yes Kuan, I could do that, pass all account info to my spouse. But I doubt she wants to do blogging ;)

BlogAndBucks, the problem is once you pass away, there is no more you, to do all the things that you listed. You have to do them before you pass away, not after, right?

lol. Yes you are right. I wish i could come back after i pass away. I have to do all those thing before that. ;)

Life happens. And most of the times, such thing happens at the time when it is least expected.

In the situation of a million dollars blogger, e.g. problogger, johnchow, etc, his blog is worth more than a million dollars. It is a very important income source for himself and possibly his family. It is an important business asset.

    If God forbids,

what will happen to the blog?
    will the blog continue?
    will it stop?
will some one deputize and carry on publishing the blog?
is there anything to do proactively?
Is business insurance a solid part of the contingent plan?
    Is a succession plan necessary?
What are the necessary actions as a standard contingent plan?

Life happens! My advice: Be prepared asap!

You are right David, better to be prepared. Especially for baby boomers ;) (Sorry for my bad taste joke).

well, i often think about this, what will happen to my clients if i die accidentally, because i m in Pakistan and all of my clients are in US, Norway and Canada, how they will be notified, what about my pending tasks and what will happen to my pending payments? but could not find any answer.

So what do you suggest me guys?

Hmm… Since I am not making all that much money I guess it isn’t vital at them moment but it certainly makes one think about the future.

Not something anyone would consider. At least I haven’t

Hubby would have a heck of a time LOL

Guess I had better start writing down everything so he at least knows where to look
