If you login to your PayPal you will notice that PayPal has added some User Interface elements to its members area. The new design has lots of white space and looks a lot more cleaner now. New UI elements are tooltips on the links, when you mouseover on them they will show description of the link or function (as shown in the above screenshot). I like this feature.
Recent Problem
For the past 2-3 days, many international users have been having trouble accepting funds in their PayPal. There used to be an option like “Accept funds without adding US bank account”. Now that option is gone! Users either have to accept the funds and add US bank account (many international users do not have US bank accounts) or reject the funds altogether. Since they cannot add US bank account the only option has been to return the money to the original sender.
Connection?
I am not sure if the new interface design had anything to do with this problem. Affected users have been contacting PayPal regarding this, but so far no clear answer has been given. I hope they will solve this problem really soon, otherwise it’s affecting international users very greatly (and PayPal is loosing lots of money too). Have you been affected too? If yes please do comment, let the PayPal hear your voices!
Update: 29 May 2007 – This problem has been solved. Now all can accept funds in their paypal account, without adding a US bank account.

I’m an E-bay seller from Turkey. I also hav the same PayPal problem. I can’t accept the payments. That’s a big trouble, cause I sell on E-bay as describing I accept PayPal.
Also I couldn’t gt a reply to my question from PayPal.
That’s really interesting, not good for a huge financial company.
E-bay is not my hobby, my profession, PayPal must solve this problem.
I can never have an USA bank account. If PayPal will not work out of USA Countries, they should announce this before.
That’s horrible!
- I understand, let’s hope that PayPal will solve this problem really soon.
I am a programmer in Turkey who works with Paypal, and I also have this problem. The worst part is, Paypal does not even care to announce this problem using e-mail. I had to call their tech support in US as they don’t even answer emails, and I was told this was a known issue, and that they didn’t know when it would be fixed but it might be fixed by weekend (20 May is Sunday).
It is totally absurd that they do not announce this “known” issue to unsuspecting customers. Very bad. I am already looking for alternatives but in Turkey, we have not many options, and Paypal still does not send money to Turkish banks.
Thumbs down to Paypal for their dis-respect for its international merchants.
I am affected too. My eBay seller in Israel couldn’t accept my payment & had to return it, so Paypal gained 5% because of currency conversion charges. This is disgusting! Paypal tech support gave useless advice – i.e. do manual acceptance, which doesn’t work!
