One Microsoft Employee’s switch to Ubuntu from Windows

Here is a guy who works for Bill Gates, he has been working for Microsoft for the past 6 years. Yesterday on April 30, 2007 he started a blog to document his switch from Windows to Linux (Ubuntu). He says the switch is purely for his own research, he also complains that in Microsoft he didn’t have the time to make research or his own research. He just had to finish the tasks before the deadline. New task, new deadline. New task, new deadline just like a robot.
But there is another side to Microsoft. The side that has held my hand, shielded my eyes and who I allowed to slowly lead me down this path.
The side where you aren’t given time to be creative or perform research that does not address an immediate work item on your schedule. Where you are discouraged from thinking about things other than what is right in front of you at that moment. Where you have 6 weeks to do 16 weeks of work. Where months of hard work can be thrown away because the lawyers won’t let you ship it even though the customers are screaming for it (talk about getting punched in the gut).
His blog (post) has already been dugg 1634 times (at the time of this post). I hope he won’t get fired or worse sued by his boss Bill Gates. Otherwise good luck to him! makingtheswitch.wordpress.com
