Note: Yahoo has solved this issue already: view here.

In any business, in general over time people expect the services of the company and the features of the services to improve. And if it doesn’t then the customer starts to look for alternative companies that offer similar or better services.

Yahoo!Mail

I have been waiting for the attachment download feature of the Yahoo!Mail to improve for some time now. Unfortunately, Yahoo seems to be busy with other things. When these kind of small things that can be fixed easily are not fixed (maybe by one web programmer?) and when customers use them everyday, it can really get annoying. And ultimately the company could end up loosing customers - lots of them, and all because of what? All because of a problem that could be solved by one man.

Today I received an email with the following 5 attachments, see below.
Yahoo Download Feature
As you can see, to download all the files I need to click one attachment at a time and download them one by one. It does not take more than a minute for me to download them all but it’s nevertheless a cumbersome job to do.

It would be great if you can download the attachment by just clicking on it, but Yahoo does not do that. Yahoo will take you to another page when you click on the file name. I know that they are trying to keep the viruses away from the users by pre-scanning the files, but can’t they do it on the fly? And only show the warning when the file is infected with virus, otherwise they should let the user download the file directly.

Gmail

This was not the only email I received with many attachments in it, so there was no way I would be downloading the attachments one by one, what I did was… I forwarded the emails to my Gmail and using Gmail’s download all attachments feature, downloaded all the attachments.

As you can see, when there were many files a simple task like downloading a file was an issue at Yahoo!Mail. On the other hand it was a snap with Gmail. Imagine how many millions of Yahoo!Mail users are having this difficulty? I hope Yahoo will address this issue and will come up with a solution, otherwise they should expect to have millions of ghost email accounts - accounts that are there but not used by the users.

I have been waiting for the “download all attachments” link from yahoo for years! At one point they had a “download all pictures to yahoo! photos” but it didn’t really make the job of getting the images/files to your computer any easier and they eventually did away with their photo site. Thank you for the heads up about gmail, guess I have to go create an account there so that I can use it solely for the purpose of downloading picture-laden emails quickly!
