100 Dollar Laptop

United Nations Secretary-General, Koffi Annan, and the prestigious Nicholas Negroponte have launched in Tunis the 100 dollar laptop, which aims at bringing over the new Information Technologies to the children in the least ‘developed’ countries in the world. Google has taken part in the creation of this little green laptop by developing a ‘thin client’, an essential device for a PC that doesn’t have nor a great memory or a processor. Thanks to this ‘client’, the laptops (which work with Linux) will have access to powerful softwares run by a central server while connected to the Internet. The objective is to produce several millions of these laptops, which will be delivered in schools in different countries from next year on. via http://google-blog.dirson.com/post.new/0303/

This seems like a good idea because it means people from the poorer nations finally get a chance to at least alittle bit like the people of the richer nations. Obviously there is alot that needs to be done, but for now this is a step in the right direction

Got something to say? Go for it!
